Bethesda has just unveiled the Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition which gathers over 150 pieces of Creation Club content in one massive package! This extensive gathering is aimed to provide all new and old players alike with a vast amount of new activities, new quests, weapons, armor, and even settlement items. However, the day has not gone smoothly at all. Players are reporting and expressing their frustration at the same time with a large number of problems related to game crash.

Now, what do we mean when we refer to the Anniversary Edition? Actually, it is a collection, a bundle of all the Creation Club content that has been previously released for the game. Hence, it is a great opportunity for the players who never bought any of that stuff to get a big part of the mod-like content that is officially supported by the publisher. The idea is to play the game again with new toys and not to worry about mod compatibility or looking for downloads online.

But the community’s reaction … let us put it this way, was not very positive. The official Fallout Twitter account posted about the release and immediately complaints started flooding the replies. A major issue is with the Creation Club menu itself. A gamer named Vegetano1 faced a crashing menu and spent three hours installing their older content. They reported that it takes five minutes just to launch the creations menu and it usually crashes after that. That is a long time spent staring at a loading screen.

And they are not the only ones suffering from this issue. User Roagosh reported waiting for thirty minutes for the Creation Club to load everything before they could start their downloads. LastKnightGaming complained that the Creations page gets stuck on loading for eternity, and when they return to the main menu, the game crashes completely and they are sent back to the Xbox home screen. That is quite an unpleasant first experience for a paid upgrade.

Another problem is the content activation that is not behaving as it should. Among other gamers, who like swananson2002 and ststephen245, players declared that even after the bundle was purchased and downloaded, it was still listed as “coming soon” in the add-ons menu and the new quests weren’t starting. It reminds one of the situation when you buy a gift that you are not allowed to open. DaxsonWebb22 called out Bethesda, telling they bought a $20 CC pack just for the Creation Club which turned out to be completely nonfunctional. They cast doubt on what Bethesda was doing during the four-day delay prior to the release, insinuating it was for bug testing. Oops.

Some users are experiencing a blockade because of the mod space. User _c0pyright_ complained that their mod list is already at its limit and they cannot add the new creations until Bethesda gives them more space. They compared it to Starfield, where they have already passed 300 mods limit without any issues. It is a strange limitation that actually prevents the customers from using the content they have already paid for.

The attitude of a great part of the player community is that this is simply a cash grab. User Jason. sarcastically remarked that “most of which are pointless skins,” which means that the content is not very valuable. StarmanJ64 preferred not to buy any more “editions” of Bethesda games after they considered their experience with Starfield to be mediocre. JohnDoe1432859 was even more direct, saying “No thanks. I’ll just pirate them all” and calling Bethesda the “worst companies ever” for what they see as a breach of trust with the fans.

There are more concerns about the functionalities. Orangeblood503 asked if the creations bundle could prevent achievements, which is a common fear with modded content. MellowedPanda asked whether the Anniversary Edition included any visual improvements, akin to Skyrim’s Anniversary Edition. The answer seems to be no, it is just a content bundle.

The frequent analogy to the earlier Fallout episodes is inevitable, though. Augustow08 lamented that the Capital Wasteland (Fallout 3) and New Vegas still remain without any new features or repairs, especially with the second season of the Fallout TV series around the corner. It suggests that just as Fallout 4 is getting another release, older yet still favored titles remain unremastered.

Thus, the communication is that the Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition has come for good. It is an amazing collection for all those who want to experience an official and curated mod collection. However, the launching was accompanied by a plethora of technical issues which have hindered the players’ enjoyment. It has been challenging to get to the Commonwealth due to the crashing menus and inactive content. These basic functionality problems reflect badly on a company that has built its reputation on magnificent, open-world RPGs. It may be wise to save your caps until a fix is released for this one.
