So Nintendo just dropped Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots on the Switch out of nowhere? Like literally just announced and available on the same day- it’s kinda wild for them. The official tweet declared the game a “PAR-TEE for everyone” because no golf pun and emoji was left unused to urge players to swing into every match and mode available at the moment.
Which is the thing- gamer reactions have been…medley. Like seriously all over the place; some people are genuinely joyous about the release with one individual accusing to have sorted in this game for fifteen hours and frozen commenting “So much fun!!,” while the other one was saying that he “used to rock the shit out of this game” and that he’s glad to see it back. So much for the positive reviews!
On the other hand, it’s a complete mess now. People had started bringing up Nintendo’s recent patent disputes. Several comments joked about Nintendo patenting golf games next, and others got louder with their promises to boycott the company. One user just blatantly said, “Disgusting behavior from Nintendo and I’m on the boat to just boycott you into bankruptcy.” That hurts.
Wait, was I saying- oh, right, the actual gameplay. So Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots is actually a Sony franchise originally? At least, some comments pointed out, making this a rather interesting crossover. Like Sony IP on Nintendo hardware-we’ve seen a bit of that lately, but still wild when you think about it. Someone said, “Still can’t believe we’ve gotten to a point where Sony’s own IPs are coming to Nintendo consoles.”
Along with that come many performance concerns, such as tree pop-in issues from the trailer and PS5 Pro performance, which would have made no sense for a Switch game but okay. Then there were the comments hoping for a native Switch 2 version, which Nintendo just announced a Direct for on September 12th, focusing on Switch 2 games… so maybe it’s actually coming?
Speaking about the Direct, many people were begging for Direct announcements in the replies, one of them saying, “Just cancel the Direct, this is what everyone wanted to know.” Which… doubtful but funny. The official Nintendo account had replied to one of the comments confirming that the September 12th Direct will be held at 6 AM PT and will run for roughly 60 minutes of Switch and Switch 2 game info.
There were also random calls for Mario Golf games and Mario Baseball games- not related, but hey, people want what they want. Plus, a few musings about nature, falling down, and getting back up? Twitter never ceases to be bizarre sometimes.
Honestly mixed. Excited golfers, angry Nintendo haters, performance worriers, and hopefuls for the Direct- all mixed up in one comment section. It’s a bit messy, but there you have it, Twitter.
That day, Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots is out on Switch for anybody that enjoys arcade-style golf. Whether it works for anybody or not, whether people boycott Nintendo or not, the game is there waiting for the tan shots of its players. The September Direct might bring more golf content or the Switch 2 version or both-I can’t really say. Then again, the party is only on the green-whether everyone is invited or not.
