Bethesda has served up some tempting lore on the Imperial City in The Elder Scrolls universe. While the invarious things include a nostalgia trip on the timeline of Tamriel, several vitriolic ameliorations about bungles unique to this level are under temporary spotlight. A detailed rundown, posted on the official Elder Scrolls Twitter, described the structure of the Imperial City: six districts arrayed around the White-Gold Tower, dating back to the Merethic Era. However, rather than setting the debate on lore, the responses quickly shifted into a tech support forum.
Players are complaining about crashes, broken quests, terrible performance, and all manners of issues since the launch of the new Oblivion remaster. One user named Lulu 🌟✊🏻 listed a laundry list of issues, including crashes while doing alchemy and NPCs choosing the wrong houses to sleep in. Rasta Foreyes reported, “The game is totally broken,” and demanded a patch. Along with them came others such as Franco saying, “Performance on PC is atrocious,” while Don Mof cannot even get into the Imperial City thanks to crashing at the doors.
I guess the weight of frustration hangs in here. Notwithstanding, Tartarsauce is begging for a fix or refund; while nbird mna shouts into the void, “DROP A PATCH.” At the same time, Michelle offers, “Luckily, I’ve had no issues,” which makes her a sore victor amongst all the despair.
Not everyone is strongpods of piss, though. A few lore nerds like Moe and ℨ𝔢𝔩𝔦𝔤 𝔙𝔞𝔰𝔦𝔯𝔬𝔳 actually dug deep into the history of the Temple District and the irony of structures built by the Mer lasting more than Skyrim’s mud huts. Then there’s Matt, who was simply feeling all sorts of nostalgia to relive the trauma of getting lost in the sewers and having to restart. Very relatable.
Meanwhile, all requests for physical editions, German dubs, and Switch 2 ports go unnoticed. Bethesda hasn’t chirped in yet, but oh, with this whole backlash, you’d better believe that next update is about to get rushed. And so onwards, caught between loving the lore and choking down the jank: this is what the classic Elder Scrolls experience entails.
So yeah. The Imperial City is cool and all, but maybe fix the game first? Just a thought.
