So I guess FromSoftware really dropped the bombshell for Elden Ring players. From July 31, 2025, players will be able to take on the Everdark Sovereign version of Augur. Let me just say that the reactions have been WILD! Some are excited, some are busy complaining about it, and some are just… confused?

Poem-style announcement by the official Elden Ring Twitter: “From the depths of a dreamless abyss, a dark fiend stirs to drown all light. May your thunderous strikes cast the abomination back into its sunken cradle.” Pretty dramatic, huh? Boss goes live at 03:00 CEST (for us Americans, that’s 18:00 PDT on July 30).

And, you know, things start getting juicy here. The reactions went to prove that the community is, if anything, split regarding Elden Ring. User kororkoor outright called it “the most annoying boss in all souls history,” whereas IbrahimBuk20567 went on with a little hope: “I’m looking forward to seeing you guys make this fight amazing like yall did with every other Everdark Sovereign.”

Some players seem to have other bosses on their wishlist: Ghz33 says, “Still waiting for Caligo..” otakutbmegente adds, “Where’s the goat Caligo FromSoftware? It’s all I want in this game.” So not everyone is happy about Augur getting all the attention.

From the gossip mill, not many liked the original Augur: “Quite a bit commented boring or annoying,” one of which was Sabernipple’s joking remark: “The only thing that made this fight any fun was newbies looking at the atomic-bomb like…” followed by a meme. However, Everdark keepers have a reputation of godlike boss improvements, so maybe this will be a first?

Language problems notwithstanding, the hype and complaint flies on. FumeLady tweeted in Arabic: “يصير ينومك حتى بالواقع,” which roughly means, “It will put you to sleep even in reality,” while UnaPerBvxd supported that with Chilean Spanish “me kgo en toda la buta.” Let’s call that intense excitement.

Then the timing becomes a point of discontent. JayDs234 dramatized: “Extraordinarily inconvenient. My week is shattered,” while _melenia_ was more warm-hearted: “Since it’s sooner. Apologies accepted 😘😘💛🌹.” Typical FromSoftware release – just can’t please everyone, can they?

Quite fascinating to hear so many players compare this fight to the others of Everdark Sovereigns. IbrahimBuk20567: “The sentient pest original fight was boring imo (not as boring as augur) but the everdark made it really fun.” So there is hope that this one may redeem Augur’s reputation.

There is, of course, no discussion about Elden Ring without a few… colorful comments. Princess Evelith went right for the jugular: “stop fucking making annoying shit THIS GAME SUCKS,” while KamerynJW came to the champion’s defense: “it’s not an abomination :(”

FromSoftware’s known for its punishing bosses, but this Augur seems to be hitting a particular nerve. If that Everdark one will be the change remains yet to be seen. One thing is sure, for sure: July 31 is going to be the house controller-throwing day for a lot of gamers; that “sunken cradle” abomination, at least.

The timing is interesting-middle of the summer when few might prefer to be on vacation or have more freetime. Very smart, you FromSoftware, very smart. Though some will argue that there’s never a bad moment for new Elden Ring content.

As the day draws nearer, will heat and memes erupt, and surely some last-minute guides? Will be the boss that finally breaks the community? Or the boss that everybody loves? One way to find out-mark calendars and get ready with builds. July 31 can’t come soon enough… or can it?
