Now that Patch 1.02.4 for Elden Ring Nightreign is out by Namco Bandai, what the community has to say about it seems to be an entirely different story. Bugs related to Deep of Night mode and multiplayer Expeditions were tackled in this update, but the players were shouting for more than just fixes to technical problems.

What does this patch really contain? According to patch notes, this patch mostly fixes problems affecting the more challenging Deep of Night mode and some hiccups in multiplayer Expeditions. Basically just maintenance. But if you scroll through the responses to the tweet announcing it, the player base has a much bigger fish to fry.

The biggest complaint? Everyone seems to want the Revenant class buffed. It’s utterly everywhere. One user, Ryou_irl, flat-out asked, “will revenant ever be buffed tho?” Meanwhile, Valerie_Palorie left a comment about “No rev buffs…” followed by a crying emoji. GeanC1 went even further: “Come on! Please buff Revenants summons for Deep of the Night :(.” This is certainly not about just a few player mentions: the Revenant class seems to be perceived very underpowered by the community, and players are fed up with these updates that never come with any balance tweaks.

Then comes the Deep of Night mode controversy. NickGoodThLegen did not mince his words, calling it “one of the worst releases iv played in a very long time,” and withing 2 days, they deleted the game as they saw there was “zero incentive” for them to keep playing. Then! Hana_Healer suggested kind of an endless mode so players don’t have to grind through rankings anymore; sounds great, honestly. As it is right now, several “days” of purposely ranking up need to be observed before one even attempts harder challenges, which is just annoying.

Enter the multiplayer annoyances. DanteAmerigo mentioned that the Xbox community continues to run into connectivity problems: “still getting disconnected like every other game.” On the other hand, E100Stalwart claimed that, although they have constantly been protected from losing ranks due to early quits, they now lose so much rank points through early quitting of their mates. So, in short: even though this patch claimed to fix multiplayer, it is far from smooth.

Some started to question whether developers themselves even play their own game: “I’m convinced you people don’t even play your own game at this point,” tweeted Rahman Abrar, while Meth0200 only worsened feelings, accusing of “new levels of laziness” and stating, “The only ones not showing ‘support & passion’ for this game are the devs themselves.” What brutal criticism in a company worth over a billion dollars.

And even amidst all the complain, some are still trying to make the best of a bad situation. RisuEUOfficial was looking to find some people to play with, saying, “kinda new and still learning on what to do!” Whereas Thatsleepyguy1 was straight up asking for carries through Deep of Night 2, which honestly is relatable.

Moving farther into the future, TheRealMachzill was already seen asking, “New nightfarers and bosses when? 🥰” Because let’s be honest-bug fixes are cool, but new content is what excites the masses to stick to a live-service game.

What seems to be really weird is how fractured the community is about all this. Players like NickGoodThLegen completely wrote off this game and labeled it “dead” and “stale,” whereas many others are still showing signs of life and looking to group up. Troy21863849 threw in another voice around here saying “the game is dead after 3months.”

Patch notes may be concerning technical improvement, yet player response is a much bigger story about what the community really desires: balance changes, content, stable multiplayer, and quality-of-life enhancements. Bug fixes, yes, are necessary, but they really don’t touch deep down upon what is wrong with the player experience.

It’s really wild how one simple maintenance update just shed light on a whole sea of troubles going on between a game and its player base. Developers are knee-deep in some stability stuff, but the community is shouting for real changes and experiences. That glaring disconnect has got to be patched up for Elden Ring Nightreign if it’s ever going to stay around long enough to keep the player base glued.

So far, the patch is in, and theoretically, bugs are being exterminated; however, players want more-a great lot more. Whether something will be done about that is still on the table, but the feedback is definitely… loud. And that would properly be an understatement.
