An emerging teaser from FromSoftware is making the internet communities lose their minds for all the wrong reasons. The Elden Ring account had a strange tweet about “grace lingering where his blade dances,” and the fans could not have it: debates, memes, and identity crises began, questioning whether the new character was male or female.
That Elden Ring account must have decided to put out that pretty creepy caption about a dark and sleek figure holding an ominous looking blade. Suddenly, those two words, “his blade,” created havoc in the minds of the players, who were otherwise ready to call this dainty almost-invisible character a female warrior based on that delicate slender design.
With such a couple of words, the players erupted into chaos and madness all because of “his blade,” as the slender design already made them consider it a female warrior.
The comment replies poured in-another laced with sarcasm, as one was shocked-and OWO simply made note of “I knew this was a dude. Looks like people’s fantasies about this guy being a girl was false all along”. Meanwhile, Mars had another spin on it, calling the character their “butch queen,” meaning that the memes will keep flowing regardless of lore clarification.
But, it was really not the end of the day. Others such as Mary also admitted that they might have thought the character was female. She said in Arabic: “لحظه ظنيتها بنت” (translation: “For a moment I thought she was a girl 😅”). Another user, Demon, confessed being tricked by the androgynous design all the while laughing: “He was kinda skinny and thought it was a chick.”
Beyond the gender discussion, the character is already becoming a hot topic for ability speculation. Apricity fears that the deflect mechanic might just backfire through its simplicity: “If the whole deflect system for this character is just a one-button press for automatic perfect deflects for a short amount of time, I’m gonna be so disappointed.” On the contrary, Gly & Culmur think Revenant, which might be the character, could be a necromancer-type one who summons skeletal goons to fight alongside him.
Even if some were displeased, Peter2000011 would spur another round of argument by calling the DLC “multiplayer trash,” whereas PsychoDad7820 offered a sideways glare at the touchy subject of DLC pricing, lamenting: “Would love to but $50 for each DLC is a bit much.” However, there are die-hard fans like RdX who have already declared, “Found my main.”
And that brought a swell of hype for the gameplay reveal rumored to stream on the official Bandai Namco or Elden Ring channel on February 28, 3 PM PDT. For lore, combat, or just soaking in all the bewilderment from the fans, Nightreign looks set to join Elden Ring’s other memorable outings.
Just half the fun is just sitting back and watching the community melt over every little tidbit. From gender debates to skeleton summoning, the list goes on; FromSoftware sure knows how to keep everyone on the edge of suspense. Now, if only they threw us a bone, like when we can actually get our hands on it.
Although pre-orders are opened, good luck with choosing whether you are going to main a graceful swordsman or butch queen necromancer until the DLC drops. Either way, the Lands Between just got more interesting.
