A vague yet tantalizing tweet by FromSoftware regarding the upcoming expansion for Elden Ring called Night Reign. The tweet conveys the very dark fantasy essence and says, “Stand resolute in the chaos of battle. A heart that knows no fear shall carve a path through the Night’s tide.” Oh, and yes, it is as dramatic as it sounds.
Of course, it included pre-order links and all those creepy art pieces; after all, what would elucidation of Elden Ring be minus a smidgen of enigma? The picture depicts a lone warrior against storm clouds lit by the moon, sword raised in a manner suggesting that they plan to take on the night all by themselves. In classic FromSoftware style.
Now this is the odd bit-zero replies. No HYPE. No “TAKE MY MONEY.” That’s… strange. The Elden Ring community would usually be dissecting every word and every pixel after these announcements for any hint at lore. So what gives? Maybe people are too busy playing? Or have they gone dumbfounded?
This only adds to the excitement. Night Reign is going to be another gritty and gorgeous addition to Elden Ring’s already wide-reaching world. A title like that gives a hint of an expansion intent on digging deeper into the horrors of the game-more night, more shadows, more things that probably want to eat your face.
Preorders are open, so if you are one of those masochists who love being ruined by all the FromSoft bosses (and, let’s face it, you are), now is the time to get yourself into the chaos. No release date yet; based on how cryptic the studio is, we might have it revealed to us three months from now in another vague, poetic tweet.
So until then, sharpen your swords, practice your dodges, and don’t think too hard about what the “Night’s tide” might actually mean. It’s almost definitely a bad time.
