Nobles are plundering from the unprepared, and this latest FromSoftware offering, Night Reign, is murdering helpless players by the hundreds. The official Twitter handle ominously warned, “Limveld offers no mercy to the unprepared. Let knowledge be your first blade.” Yeah, they really meant it.

A link was posted to an article full of beginner tips that perhaps were put there to guide players who have to really weather the challenges Night Reign throws at them. The reply to the tweet recount an even grimmer tale-The Leonine Misbegotten, the Crucible Knight, and Elemer the Briar must surely be grilling fresh souls alive. One player, @noozsky, went on to say that perhaps none of his teammates have ever really played a Souls game, and it shows.

Performance issues are being brought up too, with @armed_raven complaining about frame drops on both the PC and PS5 versions. “How could you charge 40 bucks for a game that runs barely 60fps?” That could kill FromSoft if it ever becomes an issue in earnest.

The much bigger complaint? No-duo mode. From those crying out for it; @NucuVoidwalker pointed out that the “3rd player always leaves or doesn’t know what to do.” @Sekiro669 blatantly demanded, “Give us Duo Runs please.” This 3-player demand seems to be holding the larger matchmaking that interferes with each other.

Then the hardcore players are defending the difficulty. @PaleHorseRAAM, had a spicy back-and-forth argument with @Ruffy667 as to whether nerfs are warranted. Ruffy stated he’s “seen tons of clears and beaten base Elden Ring at RL1 (respects),” and PaleHorse instantly fired back with “elitism.” Classic discourse in the Souls community.

For the brighter days, @Trumpenter7 claims there is no “mtx” in the game, contrary to some other predictions, with a peak concurrent player count of 300k on Steam. Big leg up for FromSoft.

This simple but major game-breaking tip from @streamspell for those reckless enough to at least step into Night Reign might just save you all: “Ironeye OP.” If struggling, do a look-up.

As far as FromSoftware stories go, the expansion has been holding tight to the tradition of punishing-yet-rewarding gameplay that From has now come to be known for. So much so that, whether you love the challenge or feel it needs balancing, you can be certain Night Reign ain’t going easy on anyone anytime soon. Better hit up those beginner tips if you want to be safe in Limveld’s merciless world.

And maybe, just maybe, they will take into consideration those duo mode requests. Until then, let’s wish you luck trying to find two decent players who won’t ditch after getting creamed once by Nightlord. You’re going to need it.
