EA Sports went crazy with the announcement of FC 26; it was all so wild and over-the-top, at least to stand out in one of the most crowded game-markets ever. They introduced an entirely new club called Zlatan FC – and what else but every player being Zlatan Ibrahimovic? The manager is, of course, Zlatan. Isn’t it?
So, exactly what is Zlatan FC? EA Sports FC’s official tweet says Zlatan FC, the club-new to FC 26, will have a team composed entirely of different versions of the legendary Swedish striker. The manager? Another Zlatan. The ultimate vanity project of one of the greatest big personalities that the game is already up for pre-order.
The announcement went through phases of excitement, disbelief, and confusion. Some players had found it funny, while others questioned the logic behind it. User Jeff commented, “Is this for real? 😂 Would have been cool if it was made up of his favorite players. Ronaldo R9 would surely be on that team.” But no; just Zlatan, from top to bottom.
Others were not too pleased with it. Richard Lewis said, “So @EASPORTSNHL has all time teams with full models of multiple retired players in them, and you guys, despite having the ability to do that, are giving us a team of Zlatans? Read the room.” He has a point; however. Why not make a proper classic all-time team rather than a one-man show?
With the controversial comments, Joey Walker called Zlatan “the most overrated player in history,” while georgio11 threw in, “All this for a man who hasn’t even won the CL.” Ouch! But really, Zlatan’s legacy is not about trophies; it’s about attitude, swagger, and unforgettable moments-in which EA is betting.
Some perceived that as the indicator that the game is already on the way out. “Holy shit this game is already so fucking dead,” was going on record by TomInRed, with sanzutd adding, “Was almost gonna buy this shit game luckily FM26 is here.” Oof! Amid those comments emerged positive vibes, one of which was from True Gaming Legend saying, “Graphics 😍🔥.”
One can almost say the idea is so peculiar that the idea must have sprung from Zlatan. Swizzy gave the joke: “This was 100% Zlatan’s idea.” Well, it’s not that far-fetched: the man has never been shy about self-promotion, and this takes it to a whole new level. “Even referees and linesmen should be Zlatan,” said Adhya Tathagata. Why not go full beast mode?
A little louder along with all that banter and criticism were cries for real content. Adytrn95 queried: “New leagues when?” Lukasfussball1 replied, “Give us FC Kloppo.” Clearly, even with Zlatan FC being a fun gag, players remain hopeful for more meaningful features and improvements in FC 26.
One thing is for sure: EA Sports really knows how to create buzz. Whether it was a brilliant marketing ploy or a desperate bid for attention, everyone is watching Zlatan FC. Whether you love it or despise it, you have to admit this was on-brand for Zlatan and EA.
Gameplay? Who knows? But if anyone is really a fan of Zlatan, then that just might be the ultimate tribute. Pre-orders are live: if building and managing an 11-player team of Ibrahimovics sounds enticing, grab the opportunity. Just don’t expect anyone to take this seriously.
This one, Zlatan FC, is proof video games can be silly sometimes, fun sometimes, and a little bit ridiculous. This might be something we need every once in a while. Whether people are going to like it or will be throwing hates on it remains a question, but one thing is for sure: Zlatan would not. When you are Zlatan, you do not simply join a club-there is no one to join; you are the club.
