Techland has unveiled the Dying Light community challenges for the second week. They are giving us a prompt and exciting invitation for this week, thus, gamers need to stop, drop and kick to win the rewards. The community is obliged to hand over two million drop-kicks to the zombies, in total. You’re reading that right; two million drop-kicks. The catch is that if they could pull off this tough task, everyone who participated would win the Sunset SUV Car Skin and the Sunset Machete. Pretty cool, I guess.
Let us first of all, explain what the Call of the Beast is about. It is the latest series of community challenges that Techland has launched for the Dying Light players. The first week is now behind us, and the second week is already here with the kick-mania challenge. This whole activity is part of Techland’s persistent and generous support to the game, which has been rather robust over the years. They have a way of getting players back to the game to do the zombie-clearing.
The players were very vocal about it, and what they said was… interesting to say the least. It seems many players have already expressed how they are looking forward to participating in the dropkick challenge compared to some other challenges. One of the main reasons for this is that the figures of the final scores are actually achievable this time around. User @BonelessAEsir expressed it in the following way: “Thanks a lot for bringing it down this time!!!… It is not even 10 million, which is what my point was, 10 million was a lot, 60 million is just nonsense… its 2 million this time it’s a perfect perfect number.” And well, he is not wrong. The figures from previous challenges were exorbitantly high and seemed like a fantasy to achieve.
The responses to the community’s concerns were, however, not entirely clear and at times even misleading. For instance, @Odeee_1 was puzzled and asked “Whats the personal goal needed?” to which @TempyNoodles replied saying “Only 1. As long as you participate, you’ll get the rewards.” So, basically, you only need to kill one zombie in case the community achieves the 2 million mark. This is unbelievably more gentle than everyone needing to undergo the whole grind just for the rewards.
Yet, few gamers do encounter some technical issues. For example, @paulgritton1 correctly mentioned, “I dropped kicks and speaking they are a bit buggy… sometimes I power up my PS5 and it’s r1 and x for a drop kick, then I go back to it and out of the blue I have to double press x for the drop kick. What is going on here?” And yes, that does sound incredibly annoying! Meanwhile, @Young_SavageGuy inquired, “If I drop kick a zombie off a roof or throw an explosive throwing knife and then drop kick before it detonates, does that count?” while @4ndyss8919 said that he would consider the first situation but was not sure about the second one.
There has been some rumor lately that players are not being credited properly for the rewards of the last couple of weeks. @PacBoy89 just came out and asked, “Did anyone get the reward for week 1?” then @Theaveragedevil explained how to redeem them: “It’ll be in your stash (bag) You’ll have to redeem it then move it from your stash to your inventory. You’ll get the weapon and its blueprint.” But then @HoneyNutScootas confessed, “I messed up and dismantled it,” and asked if he could retrieve it. Ouch! That is tough luck, mate.
What is really absurd is that so many players are taking this as an opportunity to ask for new features. @Ant_Thomas93 shouted “What a disappointment, still no new game plus,” and @AustinLinnYT “I feel like this would be a great thing to do if we had new game plus.” Meanwhile, @Iacariky was begging “ADD IN GAME COUNTER PLS GUYS, PERSONAL & COMMUNITY!!! Everybody wants it!” which, to be truthful, would not hurt as a great quality of life improvement anyway.
And then @AcBrown2000 who completely changed the topic asking about some chicken being in a barn? Like “Please fix the doors on this barn I’m trying to get the chicken ewa I know she’s in there on the second floor but I can’t open the doors to get in and grab her please help I don’t want to start a new game.” Dude, we are discussing dropkick zombies not farm animals here.
The overall mood is very positive. @GamerMom1969 was like “woohoo my favorite!!” and @Ror0ww_ was thanking the developers “thx for this challenge more accessible.” @BEAST1010100 also appeared very confident, saying “1 million and 2 million dropkick is achievable.” His claim is totally true; it seems very feasible compared to the previous similar but easier challenges that mostly required 60 million of something.
It is really nice that Techland is listening to players’ critiques and adapting the community challenges to be more realistic. They could have just maintained the ridiculously high numbers and ended it there, but instead, they are actually empowering the community to succeed. That is how you keep players engaged years after a game’s release.
Thus, if you are still playing Dying Light or are considering to come back, it is your lucky day. Just like a zombie, pass through the Dying Light Outpost for all the details, get your drop-kicking on, and get the community to that 2 million mark. The Sunset SUV skin is super cool, and who doesn’t want to add one more nice machete to their collection? But do remember to activate your rewards from your stash rather than dismantling them immediately like some people have done. No names mentioned but you know who you are.
Overall, this is the kind of continuous support that makes Dying Light still popular even years after its release. Techland could have moved on to other games, but they are still finding ways to draw players back to Harran. They show through community challenges, events, or general updates that they understand their community’s needs. And right now? What we need is to dropkick zombies into next week and feast on the sweet cosmetic rewards.
