Weaving into the climax, a big reveal splashed into the bulletin board of this existing Dying Light player community, announcing that the much-awaited Beast mode might be released on September 18. The developers released a fresh trailer expounding on the powers bestowed on the player once the Beast is unleashed, promising-fast runs, huge leaps, and brutality beyond the scope of an average human being.
The announcement and the pre-order link were the catalysts from where the buzz began within the community. The description on the site reads something along the lines: “To be a Beast is to have unbounded savagery, yet you require taking care of your newfound wild powers.” It is that old conflict that Dying Light knows all too well-big power versus big price?
The community erupted in excitement over this announcement. J-Ray GTA All Day responded to another comment that he is “absolutely stoked to play this,” also mentioning how “a ton of detail has been put into each aspect of the game.” The hype in the community is just like wildfire.
Another discussion arose regarding the release. Ant Bursts noticed something strange and commented, “18th I thought it was the 19th.” RockStation replied, calling the devs the “legends for bringing the release date forward a day.” So Techland did indeed move their release forward by a day! Always a pleasant surprise in our industry.
The international community was concerned-especially the German one, which sometimes faces censorship in violent games. Multiple users including xDer_Apfelx and XplayzZ asked if the German release would be censored or uncensored. xDer_Apfelx pleaded, “Bro pls tell me that The beast will be uncut in Germany ππ”. This has been a recurring issue with the Dying Light series in Germany, so their concern is indeed valid.
Some speculated about the actual release date’s further aspects. Fran sivori was asking about pre-download availability, wondering if she might get everything ready a day before the launch. xDer_Apfelx said, “Most games have it just 1-2 days before,” which is the norm for most big releases nowadays.
Then came the feature requests, combined with comparisons to the old stuff. TheGoldenDreamX was asking “why this Beast feature ainΒ΄t in Dying Light 2, you could still add it to the game though.” Meanwhile, Dantes Rant Room wanted to know in no uncertain terms if “we are getting back the old school grappling hook? Not that monstrosity from part 2? Lol π”. That grappling hook was a definite hit from the first game; hence, players have every right to want it back.
Some really wanted the accessibility options, with Serge begging the devs to respond with “please please please let us choose the language of audio, subtitles and interface separately!” It’s a crucial feature that should be in many games nowadays, especially in bilingual homes or for people trying to learn any languages.
Some people were concerned about balance, saying, “What’s the fun in being overpowered? I swear the game is going to be too easy.” But then one called Asif responded, saying, “From everything I’ve seen, you’ll be very weak at the beginning but like all games, you’ll be very powerful by the end if you upgrade and learn everything. There are also difficulty options.”
“It’s not yet because of this hype!” Probably one of the rare expressions any developer would hope to hear from his players, expressed by Dominic Heinle. ShaqBuysComics said he already pre-ordered the deluxe, another way of expressing exactly that excitement.
Meanwhile, there was a bit of confusion concerning the platforms. DoomJX had asked, “is there a date for PS4 yet?” as if the announcement wasn’t crystal clear about which platforms this Beast mode was to be available on. But judging by the past, Dying Light is almost always multiplatform, so it should be safe to assume all major platforms.
The fury from the trailer also showcases hardcore footage-superhuman parkour, devastating combat styles, and some kind of rage mode turning players into complete powerhouses. Techland obviously wants to fulfill the big-power-fantasy dreams while keeping that Dying Light vibe on!
The exciting thought concerning the upcoming “Beast mode” is the evolution of gameplay mechanics all the way back into the original Dying Light. The day/night cycle is and always has been a very influential aspect of the experience, where nights are terrifyingly dangerous but also offer much greater rewards. On top of that, it seems as though this new mode if anything further exacerbates the risk/reward mechanics; in exchange for great power, players have to keep track of it well.
Introducing an absolutely great release date of September 18th to keep hype short and sweet, so it never drags on for too long. Pre-orders are open at this time, and the community’s reception so far so good should make this one of the best updates ever to hit Dying Light. Whether it’s the veterans or the wave of new people awaiting their reason for jumping back in, Beast mode fulfills every bit of rage for more action, more power, and more opportunities to completely annihilate those pesky zombies.
Techland is one of the few publishers to genuinely brand itself on meaningful content updates for years post-launch, a rarity in the past few years, where the in-game development environment has quickly left for their next big thing immediately. This has secured the community’s goodwill, and Beast Mode looks like a shining example of actually listening to people and delivering big.
With September 18 creeping up closer and closer to all of us, we can expect a gameplay reveal, and they might tag it along with streaming events on the new mechanics. Now all the players are happy, expecting awesomeness in mobility, brutal combat, and the excellent ambience of Dying Light that made this game a worthy memory for all. Beast is here- and it’s not pretty!
