When the pre-orders for Dying Light: The Beast were announced by Techland, the whole gaming community exploded with questions. The message was simply “We’re cooking — and you? 😎” with a pre-order link, and it generated an array of reactions ranging from excitement to doubts.
Let’s quickly take some time and talk about the game itself. Dying Light: The Beast would be the latest installment to the much-loved zombie survival franchise; and while very little information regarding the game is still out there, that short trailer does seem to be pointing at something more darker and bloodier. The title itself-‘The Beast’-serves as a teaser toward what is some truly nasty thing lying somewhere in the infected world of Harran. But, what is it really? Is it another enemy? Is it another gameplay feature? Or is it just a really cool title for the game? No one knows yet, but the players are already speculating.
Crossplay has to be among the most hotly-contested topics in the replies. Players including @beastyboy123123, @G2e39gjcaty, have been clamoring for confirmation on whether it will be possible to join friends on a different platform. Indeed, crossplay is a must-nowadays for multiplayer games, and saying no to it for The Beast will be a sad blow to the community.
There is another set-around-the-block debate, the physical-versus-digital one, with questions flying in from every direction-@CrowiiV_, and @ICE_COLD_x wondering if will it see a physical release. Some collectors just won’t go all digital, and with Techland’s fuzzy answers, their irritation just gets worse.
The other hot topic is modding. @ryomagnum wonders if gun mods—silencers, extended mags, and the like—will be allowed. Given the big customization options in Dying Light, the question seems valid, although the operators remained silent once again.
Then we have the classic pre-order paradox. “@___AbdullahF: I would love to pre-order, but with all the issues Dying Light 2 released with, I think it’s better to wait and see first.” It is only understandable if some fans have reservations about jumping in immediately because of the DL2 issues from the past.
Some players have already declared themselves: “Already pre-ordered 😈,” declared @AyushYadav5549. “Done and done!” added @squishybun42 with enthusiasm. The hype is for real for anybody willing to put their trust in Techland.
Then come the wild cards. “@coolguy80101: Dying Light: The Feast,” with @williamxdd_ adding, “Plz fix the ragdoll physics.” Time-honored Twitter madness.
So, what’s next? There is an abundance of unanswered questions to be tackled by Techland before launch. Concerns of crossplay, physical editions, modding support, and performance stability are all heavy hitters. But if they can answer these, The Beast may well turn into yet another massive success in the franchise.
Meanwhile, all we can do is sit back and watch—as well as possibly engage in a wee bit of pre-ordering for those gutsy enough to go there. Just be sure to look around for news on physical release for your platform first. Or if any of your friends are coming along. Or if those guns even can be modded. Alright, maybe just wait a little longer for now.
Either way, the kitchen surely has gotten hot now. From this point, all that is left to do is hope Techland does not end up burning it.
