Techland went ahead with bringing some exciting news for every portable gamer. Notably, the much-hyped Dying Light: The Beast expansion has now entered the category of Steam Deck Verified, thus allowing the user to entertain those sinewy parkour-horror zombie kills of theirs in Castor Woods anytime, anywhere. Given that it was never really portable since it had to be played on something-like, a tidy little desk thing-this is a real step up for anyone on the go.
The account with the Steam Deck Verified logo placed their tweet first; hence the players were losing their minds in excitement. Eyeing the replies is like mixing every concoction of utter excitement about pre-load, a few confused about pre-loads, and some asking straight away for a Switch 2?? Which, guys, calm down; it just got announced for the Steam Deck.
One of the highest comments comes from Unknown Reason shouting, “Tonight belongs only to Crane ππΌ,” which is quite apt in throwing back that old-time feel from the first one. It felt great that that one line still packs such a punch.
There do come incessant blessings sometimes, of course; suddenly, an issue exists that serves so many players’ anxieties about the pre-load. User Moha Freak kept asking: “Where’s the preload?” Well, they aren’t alone… Another is actually panicking because they bought the Ultimate Edition of Dying Light 2 and still can’t see The Beast in their Steam library. That has got to be so frustrating: waiting for something you already paid for and it’s just… not there. Fortunately, somebody else has replied, “our copy should appear when it launches,” so hopefully, it is already a behind-the-scenes fix that resolves itself when it’s time-the day of the launch.
Timing’s somehow kind of messy for other people too. User Loki noticed the odd regional improbability, saying, “Why say game releases 18th September 1 day early yet in the UK the day is like 70% over… May as well have stuck with 19th and had it release at midnight.” Fair enough! Staggered releases can feel very unfair, depending on residency. It’s just like getting a birthday gift but having to watch everyone else open theirs first.
Then there is classic gamer distrust. User Nyv hit us with some reality, tweeting, “Well, that has nothing to say that many games have already gotten that then ran like shitππ you can’t rely on that.” And honestly? They’re not wrong. The “Verified” badge is great and all, but it’s not a 100% guarantee that you’ll have a flawless experience. We’ve been burnt before by a game that should have been fine to run but just… wasn’t.
At any rate, hype about the game is going crazy. One player, Jclar371, gave probably the best comment ever: “Can’t wait to get jumped by a volatile while in the shitter.” Now THAT is true portable gaming. Getting scared of a monster while you’re just trying to get your business done. Priceless.
Other questions spilled out as well: “Will it have co-op from launch? and is HDR supported?” The HDR Gaming Channel especially wants to know, “Is HDR available for this game, guys?” A valid question for anyone with a fancy setup.
Physical copies are being talked about as well: The_Play_Lord screamed from the rooftops, “No physical no buy.” That is the mentality many collectors still abide by.
However, positive vibes take the front seat. Rusticsegle92 summed it up with, “Let’s go. This is where I planned on playing the game.” For a lot of people, the Steam Deck is their primary gaming machine now, so having a large-scale, graphically heavy game like this running well on it is a thumbs-up.
A wild thought on how far portable gaming has come: From like, GameBoy to able to play the entire Dying Light experience on a device one can hold in hand. Immediately getting that verification shows that Techland is paying attention to how people want to play games now. It’s not just about the bigger screen anymore, whether you’re on PlayStation or Xbox.
For those lucky with a Steam Deck, get ready! Castor Woods is about to become the best place to kill time on your daily commute. Just maybe don’t do it in the actual woods that’s a bit too immersive.
