Techland tweeted to a community-reaction-waves-generating moment asking players if they have “UNLEASHED THE BEAST,” just like the streamer Ellohime. The hype started with the main tweet, as usual, the usual slogan of any game. But as the community dove down into the reply section, the reactions came in from various circles- mixed to downright angry. Some are praising the new stuff, which ought to be Dying Light: The Following – Be the Zombie or yet another update, and the majority, however, just keeps whining.

The very first major complaint is about the co-op thing; many comments are citing how co-op, in reality, just does not work. One savvy gamer, Onsumfuckedshit, went and said, “Instead of worrying about streamers and content creators why don’t you worry about fixing coop so that the ACTUAL MAJORITY of your player base can have more fun with their friends.” Now this is a real bombshell; you are absolutely right; a nice little thing that one player would do with a pick few of his friends has just afflict a dint; that is a very big problem. Another player sounded rather bluntly, “Co-op doesn’t work at all, I did not expect this tbh,” so that sure seems to be a recurring theme that is really pissing the community off.

Then we have the whole next-gen console thing. A handful of players are asking for PS5 Pro support, which is kind of good timing. Esteban, meanwhile, says he is “still overheating my ps5 with HDR graphics even with put a cooling fan.” Yikes. That would be bad. Overheating consoles is a Huge concern to gamers. A PS5 player, Gamer Plays, reports a bug where side quests and main missions break, requiring one to quit the game and restart to continue. So, yeah, underperformance issues and stability issues appear to be on the minds of their new beast mode feature in turn.

Then there is price range. SceptixXz said they feel the game is “too small to charge 70€ for.” It’s fun, they say, but the story content isn’t enough. That’s quite a debate that had been held many times lately, especially with games getting priced higher. Is the actual content worth the asking price? Players will ALWAYS have an opinion.

But it is not just all complaining! Some players really love this new ‘Beast’ mode: Zap TheBat said to the developer, “Ngl, whoever came up with the idea of a zombie showing fear when Kyle goes beast mode should get a raise.” Pretty sick detail, glowing compliment to Natasha@1892 for Techland stitching together bits from Dying Light 1 and 2: “Epic.” So the new content, when well received, seems to be good news for some of the fans.

There are also mentions of ray tracing by a few players just saying “Ray tracing” or “Waiting for ray tracing .. ‘soon’💀.” So that’s one more thing the players really want. There are also requests for a balanced mode on console, which probably means a 40fps mode or something more fun.

Wait, what was I saying? Oh Yeah, the beast mode. It’s clear that Techland is trying to engage the community and promote this new feature. But the response shows that a large portion of the community is engulfed in more pressing issues like broken co-op and game-breaking bugs. It’s your classic show-stopper of a celebration on top of a broken foundation. The big hope is that Techland, known for supporting their games for a long time, will listen, a la Altar4K007 mentioning that Dying Light 1 just got a new update, and will hop on fixing these co-op and performance issues with a bigger patch. Because all in all, when it works, the players seem to be having fun unleashing that beast. But first, they gotta be able to play it well, especially with their friends. That is the key. For now, the community’s reaction is a loud-and-clear message to developers: fix the foundation before building in another fancy room.
