The Dying Light official Twitter just posted a clip of u/FeelingPromise8257 executing seemingly impossible parkour stunts using a grapple hook. That guy is basically swinging momentum through the trees, and this game feels all together new because of him. Now the account is calling players to send in clips of their own crazy plays with the hashtag #TheBeastPlay. Nice actually, but those replies? Man, the replies are another story… A mixed bag of crazy hype and some very serious grievances.
First things first, the hype is genuine. Pow, another player, loses it, “WAIT, MOMENTUM STAYS WITH THE GRAPPLE HOOK??? DYING LIGHT TAKE MY MONEY IN APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS”. You can just feel that keyboard-smashing energy of excitement. Another user, Kennoley, says: “Bro’s playing a whole different game” and drops a fire emoji. They are not wrong; the clip looks weirdly slick.
But then, as you keep scrolling down it starts to seem kind of like a customer support forum. These are players pouring out their grievances. BiggDogg USMC phones in on that horrible A2 treasure map bug wherein the generator turns on but the cable states there is no power, and it is happening in other people’s games too, begging for a fix. Then Josh Phillips with all-too-familiar feelings: “Too bad my grappling hook only works half way up the tree. Looks fun.” Oof. The pain of something cool which sometimes just… does not work.
And the demands! Oh God, the demands are coming in fast and hard. Others such as Austin Linn and Gonzo are straight-up asking, “When we getting ray tracing?” and “Where is Raytracing!?” It goes on forever. A5hTriX is on a whole different level; they have been asking for information on the supposed PS5 PRO patch since “Day 25” months ago, even calling the “pro enhanced” label outright false advertising. I love that kind of frustration.
The content, meanwhile. Hyrulehero is calling for more side missions, claiming that the Dying Light base game had about 50 side missions, DL2 90, while this one only has 20. This triggers a mini-debate in the replies wherein williamxdd_ and Rorow go back and forth about how many side missions DL1 really had because everyone’s memories have grown hazy over time, ya know? But the general consensus is, they want more to do.
Then performance. SemiRamiS and Emmanuel Ventura rant about how in performance mode, the game looks like the first Dying Light and is pretty much a letdown to play at 1080p for 60FPS. SemiRamiS finally flatly asks for a “Balance mode for ps5 please”. Then there is the localization issue as well; JORGE SANDOVAL is begging for a Spanish voice pack for Latin american ps5 players since changing the console language just doesn’t cut it.
It’s a wild mix. On one side, you have DaPaintbrush pleading with the devs, “Please dont nerf this one to 😅,” probably casting an anxious glance at that all-around-good-time grappling hook clip. And then Dawntay’s Inferno is already pitching DLC ideas for a “be the volatile” game mode, like Left4Dead’s versus mode. Which, honestly, sounds pretty great.
So what’s the deal here? Everybody’s getting the slick player clips being used by official social media outlets to hype the game and build the community-two good things. But then it begins to go all sideways and raw and unfiltered with a pulse of the players in the comments. It’s the place where the love for the game’s potential gets into a head on with the landscape of bugs, missing features, and performance quirks. Shows that for every one player pulling off mind-blowing stunts, there has to be like a dozen others dealing with a generator that just doesn’t generate or is waiting for a patch that was promised to them.
The community is passionate; they’re playing the game, they want it to be best that it can ever be all in their hearts. They aren’t shy to tell you all about it. The conversation about Techland‘s Dying Light is alive with soaring highs and very grounded complaints. That’s basically the gaming community in a nutshell, including those on Xbox.
