The Dying Light 2 gaming community really went wild, and to Techland‘s delight, a ‘Dropkick Rush’ community challenge was released. Techland wanted gamers to perform a definite amount of dropkicks on the zombies. They might have thought it would take a while, but the opposite was the case. Gamers quickly tore through the entire goal of 100% in almost no time at all. It happened ridiculously fast.
The official Twitter account for Dying Light shared this news, and they were all very excited. “We have just brushed past 100% of the Dropkick Rush goal! That was quick! All rewards have been released, absolutely fantastic work everyone.” Then, they posed the very question. “Should we begin to consider bonus rewards for the overachievers?” With a cheeky emoji, they implied that they were already working on something. They even shared a great image to show that the goal was achieved.
This is a very important event for the players as the game character leveling up process has been going on. The two rewards that were opened were a unique machete and a car skin for your in-game vehicle. But this is also where it gets a little tricky, as it usually happens with these live service events, the players instantly started to fill the replies with inquiries. The main one was… where are my rewards??
User Hyrulehero, popularly recognized as AcBrown2000, was one of the first to inquire. “@DyingLightGame the two prizes are still not in my stash,” they tweeted. And they weren’t alone. User GamerMom1969 said that they searched the car skin on Xbox and couldn’t find it. Panic broke out a bit in the comments section. You know, we did the task, where is our loot?
Fortunately, a few veteran players jumped in to help with the misunderstanding. The user Vasy, also known as Iacariky, made it quite clear with a reply. “the reward at the end of the week shall be given to the challenge they state this in a post different from week 1 manage.” To summarize, even though the community hit the target super fast, everyone will still have to wait for the official end of the challenge period to collect their rewards. It’s like a team thing and the payout comes later. A few others, including Austin Linn, backed this up, saying the rewards would be in your stash waiting to be claimed.
But what about the players who haven’t even logged in yet? That was yet another hot topic on the forum. User cathyannis was like “I haven’t even had a chance to participate yet!” And User Shug Knight feared that due to the challenge’s swift conclusion they completely lost the great truck skin. A nice discussion was that user Gibo assuring people that you can still take part. “You can still do it, I think. Just as long as you contribute at least one while the event is still running. And we still have 5 whole days left lol.” So yes, if you are reading this and you have not been playing, you can still join and get your rewards by performing at least one great single dropkick. The event will last a little longer.
Without a doubt, the most interesting part is Techland giving clues about the bonus rewards. The community reacted with the release of ideas. Player P O H C O suggested “personal counter overlay somehow?” which seems a nice to have an idea of how much you have contributed. user olive le baboune even bolder, just calling, “Please make a Personal Counter!!” That seems to be a favored demand, as it allows players to check their own stats against the overall contribution.
On the other hand, the imaginary game is being played. User HaudYerWheesht proposed a “Horde mode. More zombies for overachievers. Maybe make them half or quarter size.” Just a thought! Picture a horde of little zombies, tiny ones, swarming around? Sounds like both hilarious and frightening at the same time! Mr__Vasquez had a simpler but also highly requested and commonplace wish: “A BONUS REWARD? YES OUTFITS FOR CRANE PLEASE!” Who doesn’t love new character costumes?
Then, there were players who simply used the opportunity to ask for other things. user callam__xo appealed, “Please bring new game + already I finished the game a long time ago and want to replay it but not before new game +!” So the thread turned into a mix of event thrill and a general wishlist for the game development future.
It is somehow amazing how quickly the Dying Light 2 community showed their support. This is the proof that the player base is still very active and engaged, and they are cool with joining a collective goal. The fact that they achieved it far ahead of the scheduled time has surely put Techland in an easy position. They now get to be the nice developers that might share the extra loot with everyone because the players did too good of a job. It’s a win-win situation as players get more possible rewards, and the developers get a lot of positive engagement and data.
So, if you are a Dying Light 2 player, there is still time for you to join in. Just start the game, find a zombie, and do a classic dropkick. You will add to the community’s total, and at the same time, you will be securing the rewards for yourself. Besides, who knows, if we keep the numbers up, maybe Techland will indeed bestow upon us those bonus goodies for all the overachievers. The excitement is definitely real, and the community has proved that it is stronger than a horde of infected.
