Overwatch 2 has been significantly modifying its hero roster, considering the transition to 5v5 gameplay. As a result of this new strategy’s removal of a Tank from each team, numerous heroes need to be changed. In addition, supports must produce less healing, Tanks must be able to support entire sections, and Damage characters must be tuned such that they are not overpowered when there are fewer shields available. Blizzard must, however, take care to prevent character identity from being lost as a result of these modifications.

Although most of the Overwatch 2 hero reworks have gotten positive reviews, some players have taken issue with the changes made to some characters. For example, although the modifications to Doomfist have been entirely in nature, those two specific characters have raised questions. In addition, even though Orisa is more entertaining to play and Mei is much more balanced, some fans feel that both characters have lost some of their unique characteristics.

In response to all the complaints, Blizzard significantly boosted the damage of Mei’s primary fire. However, it is no longer able to freeze her adversaries. As a result, Mei is more balanced than she has ever been now that she can fast deplete HP bars but has lost her most bothersome trait. Although Mei’s detractors have responded favorably to the modification, some of the hero’s supporters have opposed it. These gamers assert that the ability to freeze enemies was essential to the hero and made her a joy to play and that the fact that her weapon can merely slow enemies now makes it feel much less fulfilling.

Blizzard needs to remember the concerns of the Overwatch community in the future when updating characters. Overwatch’s distinctive heroes have always been its greatest asset, even though backstory explanations will be helpful in situations like Orisa. Gameplay being more enjoyable for all players is a good motivation behind the Mei improvements.
