From the official DOOM site, dressing up as the Shield Saw must have been pretty much the pinnacle of the “go crazy with the cosplay” since the game’s release.

The official DOOM Twitter announced the collaboration, with a link so that fans could download the fabrication files FOR FREE-almost. No catch, no suspect DLC, nothing-prepared for your 3D printer to 3D print this evil killing tool. The tweet featured truly marvelous pictures of the Shield Saw, glorious enough to be ripped free straight from the game.

Being the internet and all, reactions were… mixed. Some fans, like @kiwiAwrNz, were hyped: “That is sick, time to slice dice, rip & tear them demons,” while others… expressed some concerns. For example, @Mc_chillenn said jokingly (or maybe not): “Kinda heavy…. Might affect the ability to glory kill…. How’s the 30k people playing your game??? Embarrassing….” Oof.

The typos showed up, of course, because gaming announcements never get away without them. The original tweet spelled “shield” as “sheild,” with many amusing responses. @Bilboba74088736 responded, “Oof. Spell check could have saved the day. Cool shield though!” Meanwhile, @MarkGames25 bluntly asked, “Shield spelled wrong on purpose?” Classic.

Before you knew it, the usual crew was brainstorming about the next upgrade for their cosplay. “@I already have many weapons in my room this shall be a fine addition to my collection!” doubted one @lostkiwichan. And the answer of @TheHackermanYT was almost shocked: “And the files are FREE?! 🤯”

Of course, not everybody was happy about this. A few players used the situation to curse “DOOM: The Dark Ages.” @Mc_chillenn and @BobbyPin13 got salty about the removal of glory kills, with Bobby saying, “I’m 3 chapters in the Dark Ages and I already wanna go back to this. 😭” Meanwhile, @qvirg_ (in Russian) expressed rather severe disdain: “You should’ve fixed the crashes at launch instead, you devils.”

Then the weird requests came, with @XboxJesus87 asking for a “DOOM electronic mobility scooter” because why the hell not? And @timesavergg pitched in with “Everyone needs one of these in their kitchen.” Totally fair.

So, here’s to the fanbase next step: If you have a 3D printer of any kind and are a fan of ultra-violent medieval-style weaponry, build the Shield Saw. A cosplayer, a collector, or just someone hoping to intimidate their roomies: this is true DOOM merch.

For all the mechanics haters-outcast or not-well, now you can channel some of that rage into building (and maybe swinging) it. Just maybe don’t put it to the test against any real demons. Or do. We’re not your mom.

Grab the files, start printing, and prepare to boast about your DOOM cred. Rip and tear, baby. Rip and tear.
