The March of the Goblins event for Diablo IV is slated to come to an end on August 6, and reactions could be described as very mixed. The loot-laden chaos ignited amusement among some, while a fair amount of players were reminiscing over or pondering about the Diablo past.
The Diablo official account gave the reminder tweet with the timer emoji that could well be “Time is running out!” and with the official info about the event. At the height of the event, the Treasure Goblin incidence was raised, whereby players would see increased payouts of gold, materials, and rare drops. But now, some feel it came too little too late for their area of rejoicing, while a few others are begging for an extension.
Increased goblin spawns should be permanent and these little loot gremlins should have some cool cosmetics: Abraham Swenson. “As a faithful barbarian, goblins were honestly the only high point of the season,” he wrote in a tweet sharing a clip of his first five minutes in the event. Conversely, BLan begged, “Extend one more week pls.”
Well, they were not all glowering. RG | SyKaDeLiC_EyEz said: “This game ended months ago,” while JOE CRONIN SHOW noted, “Add more goblins… and once they’re gone, I’m gone.”
The ever-present Diablo 2 nostalgia: F1rstbornTV flatly said, “Diablo 2 when?” Another Gamer wondered why Blizzard was showing “Diablo 2 love in China” instead of “love to its long-time fans.”
Issues about the performance of games turned up as well- MrKrinklydink did not mince words, declaring Diablo IV a “constant stuttering mess” and straight-up questioned how stable the game is on the online front.
There were some who heaps praised the event. For Victor Sanchez, it was his “favorite event of the season,” while Niftyzauper claimed this was the first time they ever fully invested in one of these events, and it was because of the gold and material rewards.
So what’s after? With the event set to end on August 6, speculation started to stir around Season 10. KingOfAbyss666 gave a joke (or serious?) of: “Season 10 August 7 then?”
Whether you hated or loved it, March of the Goblins was just a passing turbulence in the grind-heavy world of Diablo IV. Now, players will have to go out once more old-school style, hunting down those elusive little loot bags—at least until the next season arrives.
And hey, while you missed it, there will surely be a next. At least, hopefully. At least, if Blizzard listens to the few who are singing praises of it becoming permanent. You never know. Stranger things have happened in Sanctuary.
One thing for sure: the community was never short of opinions. Whether begging for fresh goblins or demanding fixes, or even reminiscing about Diablo 2, the community makes a lot of noise—and honestly, that’s one of its charms.
Back to the grind. Or the wait. Whichever comes first.
