Keeping mystery behind another teaser, Blizzard apparently considers the hype train for Diablo IV to be much off the rails. In this latest coverage by the Diablo IV developers, they almost said, “The Age of Hatred continues in #DiabloIV,” further attaching an image which was dark and moody enough that it felt vaguely reminiscent of the classic Diablo aesthetics. No information, no clarifications- pure unfiltered dread. That’s pretty much all we need.

It might be a brief tweet, but the implications are huge. This Age of Hatred is such one of the recurrent themes of the lore, and it carries references to Mephisto, one of the Prime Evils and he’s associated with-hatred. If this slip with the intention to suggest some very heavy contribution of Mephisto in Diablo IV, fans are going to face a very wild, bumpy ride here. Because the dude’s basically the OG of suffering, so buckle up.

Here’s the weird part. Not one single reply to that tweet. Like, nada. Which feels odd since Diablo fans are by far the most-known fans for flooding these kinds of tweets with theories, memes, and the occasional scream of “WHERE’S THE RELEASE DATE?!” Or maybe everyone is glued to the image decoding any hidden symbols in sight. Or maybe Blizzard slashed the replies with a shadow delete (wouldn’t put it past them).

Well, and this photo is basically doing most of the work here. It has that very characteristic Diablo diorama vibe: filthy, gothic and blood-red. There are no characters- only ambiance. Typical Blizzard move- teasing just enough to whip fans absolutely mad while doling out next to nothing. And it has worked.

What next? Probably more cryptic twits and then an update brief about what the devs are doing and then three months of radio silence. The Blizzard way. At least we know for now the game is still alive, right?

Speculate away as to what will happen. Ultimate evil by Mephisto? Class reveals coming soon? Another beta? Say yes for the love of all Because it is very eerie that it has no replies; however, you can bet bet theories are brewing this very second on Discords and Reddit threads.

One thing is sure that Diablo IV is heading toward a dark change, and we welcome the change. Now all that’s left is that Blizzard should give us a hint on when we can get our hands on it. Or a date. Or anything. Just saying.

For now, we will all just stare a hole through that tweet and hope for more information. Because that’s how this works, right?
