Diablo II: Resurrected officials just gave an announcement that will surely excite the community- Ladder Season 12 will begin October 3. The Diablo account on Twitter called the players to enter the ranks of Hell. With such an announcement, this will be a time for excitement. But what whims the community have to say? They put it much more simply.
Now a new ladder season has been brought into being. Now for any people not keeping with what is going on in the D2R world, a ladder reset means starting over; fresh new characters. It is a race to level and gear as fast as the fingers can dial. It is one of three pillars of replayability added to the game and has, in some form or another, been around for at least 20 years. The issue as stated by many is that “it’s just a reset. There is no new content; there are no patches; no major update even gets mentioned. Just… start all over again.”
The gamers are certainly letting forth their thoughts. From all the responses posted on the announcement came an unorthodox mixture of disappointment, frustration, and outright demands. One called the short notice ‘literally insane,’ especially coming after what they called the ‘d4 season flop,’ and they are going about demanding even more. Drake, with the username ADDICTED2GAM3S, said it: ‘WHATS THE FKEN POINT OF A NEW LADDER OR SEASON WHEN DO NOTHING TO UPDATE THE FKEN GAME’. Basically, that answers it for many already.
It does feel like Blizzard had something shall we say ‘bigger’ in mind before this announcement came through. User AcediaKaiser queried “For what were the teases beforehand?” JustSomeGuy84 expressed, “You guys really got my hopes up for something big….. Y u do dis 😢”. So, that seems to be the big buildup and its letdown. KSB2215 chimed in about anniversary ‘stuff’ supposed to be coming and called this whole thing a “colossal fucking L from the Diablo team.”
However, some good ones creeped through the anger, showing that the community is truly passionate about the game. One huge complaint has been a performance patch for the Switch edition. Multiple users such as DarkHado69 and YearlyBillsFan are rallying for either a “Switch 2 version” or at least a patch “to increase the resolution and frames.” Apparently, the poor Switch port has kept its sore spot for eternity.
And then there are also quality of life improvements suggested outside of levelling. Chocho vowed to bond his potions to a slot and build a bag for potions in his stash much like scrolls.” TechGuyTony went on to say “Just open it up to modding like Skyrim as the modding community has done the things we wanted you to do.” ZorisX appeared with a mega-full list of what they want: crossplay lobbies, new hireling updates, endless dungeon content. People aren’t just angry; they are bursting with ideas to make the game they love even better.
Still, the opinions are not all negative; the hype is real. GAM3S.GG exclaimed, “Lets get to work 😎”. Souls Alwayson came finishing with a sharp “It’s killing season 😎”. GabrielKDG had a back-and-forth shout-gathering that crowned D2R as “The only Diablo game I still think about fondly.” So, there is some burnt-in love for it, somewhat buried under a mountain of asks for a more meaningful support from Blizzard.
Now, what was I saying? Oh, yeah- the divide. Blow for blow, a huge chunk of the Diablo II: Resurrected population feels ignored. They seem downright bitter about the fact that new seasons for Diablo IV got attention and updates while D2R only got about routine ladder resets. Sure, it is a beautifully executed remaster, but for a community that has kept the original alive for over 20 years, a reset every few months just cannot keep the excitement at a peak. They’re after the game evolving, even in the smallest way.
For now, players impatiently pacing will be coming in fresh on October 3rd, ready this time to tear down Baal and Diablo once more, but surrounding this announcement is more about what will be laid for Diablo II: Resurrected. Player voices are roaring for more than just astep forward; they want Blizzard to show the game’s love on their side. Has Blizzard an ear to hear? So, close, the gates of Hell open one more time to all eager to ascend it.
