Blizzard has just announced the Diablo 4 2.4.0 PTR from August 19, with the rather cryptic tagline “Let Chaos reign.” Needless to say, there has been an unruly, chaotic reaction from the community.
Some chaos-themed uniques and gameplay-related changes are slated to be placed on the PTR, but some players have been roasting Blizzard for not altering Diablo 4’s base systems. Server issues, lack of endgame, implementation of loot filter requests, skill tree revamps, or otherwise countless other things Blizzard should have been hearing since launch- flooded the official tweet.
“It is a fucking joke that farming pits still remain the primary end game activity,” one player (@TollReacts) stated bluntly, while @StorelvViktor believed that Blizzard was “unwilling to do something with the base game.” Yowch. That’s even harsher than a level 100 Nightmare Dungeon.
Chaos through uniques sounds like fun- ultra-rare drops with slots to customize, as @StorelvViktor puts it- but there’s a lot of chilling hope that this could be a season-only thing. @UndeadMunch argued, trying to convince Blizzard to make them permanent, stating that Diablo 4’s gearing “needs layers and branching paths” if it’s to remain of interest deep into the potential timeline.
Meanwhile, the debate on D2 Remastered versus Diablo 4 settled down just as quickly and demolished the comment section like a sudden charged elite pack: @Mikey_Bee3 complained about D2R’s brutal drop rates (“I’m wasting my fucking time here”) while @Blitzfyre08 essentially stated that even though he says the damn thing’s old, he simply cannot stop playing it with mods. As if two different generations of Nephalem were arguing over whose Horadrim had better sense of fashion.
Some players such as @d672a2991d1f43b seemed genuinely excited (“Blizzard, you convinced me”), although cries about repetitive season mechanics drowned out all such voices. @Omnissiahmaster even had fun mocking the UI: “Haven’t you gotten tired of changing this screen for 3 seasons?” along with a facepalm meme.
In addition, @AoinoMiku pointed out some problems with the timing: PTR launching during Gamescom, but so many top streamers aren’t around to test/promote this. That’s one hell of a wrong word to use for scheduling, like getting portaling mishaps into a pack of Suppressor/Teleporter/Fire Enchanted mobs.
Meanwhile, the endgame fix discussion will be a campfire chat after the PTR (points out @SonOfTristram), but the players are already looking farther than just number tweaks and season gimmicks. Basic endgame and progression issues need to be addressed in Diablo 4, not having every joke in the book slathered with the word chaos and be called content with Path of Exile 2 just around the corner.
To generously quote @ADDICTED2GAM3S in his brutally honest reply: “Same bs powers… Moving numbers up and down woopie fken do.” Oof, that one was more painful than Duriel’s charge. Whether or not the full PTR reveal means more meaningful changes remains to be seen, but at least on the surface, the community just wants to see some evolution on this chaos.
