Bungie’s latest This Week in Destiny update has just been delivered, and it is, well, quite the rollercoaster ride of excitement and complete chaos. The community is responding as if a grenade had been thrown in the Tower, with some players literally bouncing off the walls at the thought of the new stuff and others looking to rage-quit the game orbit.
So the major announcement is that the Call to Arms event will start next Tuesday. For Bungie, that is almost a way of saying ‘get ready to have your gun for the next few weeks’ – there will most likely be an entirely new activity or game mode revolving around killing. They also revealed the Renegades Weapons and Gear Trailer, which features new weapons and armor that are quite appealing. But here comes the confusion. The players already are quick to jump into the comment section to make demands and voice their grievances. A player by the name of M is pleading, ‘Bro please put the super black shader back in the shop 😭’ – the desperation, guardians, is very real!
Similarly, Veteran’s Appreciation Month is being observed by Bungie as it is during the holidays when military service members are being acknowledged. ‘Veterans appreciation month is the best thing ever… to all you honorable served – 🫡,’ Kyle Ashdown replied which sounds very nice indeed. On the other hand, John Vine simply had to respond with ‘Player numbers must be astronomically low if Bungie is finally trying to pander to veterans.’ That hurts. The split is very clear with some considering it a sincere gesture of thanks while others seeing it as a desperate player retention tactic.
Moreover, the Cosplay Cosmodrome is also coming back for Destiny 2 Renegades where players can participate in the community event by dressing up as their guardians. Additionally, the Festival of the Lost – the Halloween event of Destiny – is nearly over so if you have not yet gotten the chance to obtain the spooky masks now would be a good time, better to act fast.
The comment section looks like a battlefield itself and Jason complains, ‘You need to fix the loot chests 90% of the time you can nothing. Especially after public events.’ Another player, Issa, has popped up saying, ‘I still can’t store weapons and armors in my vault. Is it a bug? I’m on console 🤔’ – this is quite a basic game feature that is just not functioning properly.
The whole heat mechanic controversy has also fueled heated discussions. Timfarnam said, ‘Great way to tell us nothing. What does the Heat even mean, low/high, no context. How do I get excited about this.’ But Salty replied, ‘Well, most people can figure out what heat means pretty easily. It’s pretty clear that as you fire the heat-based weapons they have a meter that fills up and unless you stop firing or manually cool it, the weapon overheats. Really isn’t that hard to figure out.’ The exchange is indeed intense.
A number of players have entirely lost their patience. Mrmisomanga was furious and said, ‘Another bull@# pointless twB how many weeks in a row is this? Just goes to show the state of this delaporating game and it’s failed studio. I really hope Sony shuts them down and takes the reins.’ That’s pure disappointment right there. Dj Sef also said, ‘Another pointless twab far out.. No wonder the population is so low’ – it seems that the feeling that these weekly updates lack substance is pretty widespread.
And, no, wait, there are actually some positives as well. Identifying as a gay active-duty serviceman, Zak Lopez posted, “So many people up in arms during Pride month demanding military recognition… they’re aaaaaall quiet now. So as a gay active-duty serviceman, I’ll say thank you, Bungie!” with a salute emoji. What an incredible moment of representation and gratitude!
Besides, the community is talking about game balance and exotics. KurtSasso asked, ‘Explain why the heck Warlocks would actually use an exotic that suspends THEMSELVES and their enemies with the BS Deltas that are still currently in the game where survivability especially as a Lock is non-existent…’ – those are indeed some specific class balance concerns right there.
In the meantime, players are replying to others who are in difficulty in the comments. Someone said the game was difficult, and Ihavenofckclu responded, ‘dude it’s not that hard. I solo’d it with starfire so using fireteam finder should make it a breeze.’ Well, that’s the Destiny community in a nutshell – they may be salty but they are still up for helping the fellow guardians.
