Alrighty, Guardians, it’s time to get your seat belts buckled. The very first Trials of Osiris weekend of the season for Destiny 2 is on, and, as anticipated, the community is already buzzing by a tweet from Bungie. Besides the hype, the fiery and salty drama that a high-stakes PvP can bring along is also here. The Altar of Flame map is in focus; players are using Corundum Hammer hand cannon, and player’s reactions are… let us say they are a blend of hype, rage, and the comedian despair just that it has more or less.
So, what’s the news? For those who do not know, the Trials of Osiris is a weekly PvP tournament in Destiny. You form a squad of three players, try to win seven matches in a row without any losses (which is called a “Flawless” run) to get to the Lighthouse for the best loot, and generally be mentally strong against the most skilled players in the system, Your mental power will be tested. A post from Bungie, urging the players to “Make Saint-14 proud,” was the signal for the start. And the responses? They are an extensive evaluation of the game’s current condition.
The discussion instantly categorized the audience into about five different groups. First, there are the realistic people. Among them are the ones who are just like RJ4REAL3, who said that he was sorry in advance for being a newbie and might mess up cards, very eager to play. Others like finestfrenzy15 are only in it for the loot: “cabin and wait for me to get in and get my hand cannon and get the f out of there.” I must admit, a bad mood feeling.
Nevertheless, right after that, the complaints began to pour in and yikes. The players are criticizing the first map, Altar of Flame, even before the match starts. “Stupid map, good gun, ugh,” stated BrunoToAmad8, which was a feeling shared by a large number of others who expressed their view by simply saying: “change the map.” This is a typical situation in Trials. No matter which map is chosen, there will always be a group of players who dislike it and express their opinion.
Now the loot question arises. Craig Mitchell directly blamed Bungie, thinking that they were the one that made the hand cannon of the Trials shine the most: “you guys just can’t stop👎👎👎👎👎👎.” Montimer_Rex added with a comment, “Oh waiter! Another broken hand cannon please!” So the thing that has the players’ attention is the gun, and yet it is already being questioned and scrutinized even before the majority of the players have received it.
The replies started to lose their point and get mixed up with the complaints of the whole community. One player, iH2oHi, went so far as to vent his anger at Bungie for “killing the fomo” by re-releasing an old shader and then he threatened to quit even though he had “more than 10k hours” in the game. This had a snowball effect. Other players, like Blank_inq and TheSaltyKing47, immediately replied basically saying that nobody cares about your hours or your FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). Salty’s response was pretty brutal: “No one gives a shit about how many hours you’ve wasted in a videogame. Now for the other part. Fomo is 100% a personal issue.” The tweet about Trials is just the tip of the iceberg of a civil war over cosmetic philosophy.
And of course, you can’t have a debate about Trials without the usual cheating accusations. Sean pointed out that popular content creator Aztecross had already discovered “windows hackers” in the mode. A different reply simply stated, “Cronus Trials, no thanks,” which referred to the usage of cheat devices. This is an everlasting, annoying shadow that spoils the competitive side of Destiny.
Then we have the people who think the game is “dead”. The user lmntlll stated, “Dead game, nobody cares and you’re a trash studio.” TheSaltyKing47’s (this guy is everywhere by the way) reply was an argument that was quite logical: “So dead that people are actually playing and even those who scream ‘dead game’ are the ones who keep coming just to shed tears about it not being dead.” Good job.
In the midst of all this chaos, you can still see the beautiful moments that only Destiny can offer. AntiBioticFox is looking forward to having his guardian’s corpse flagged up. Timothy_Mark7 is upset and wants to know why he cannot give cookies to Eido and Luzaku, the NPCs. This PlayStation and Xbox title continues to spark debate.
