Bungie has thrown a question that is cutting the Destiny 2 community into two parts, and it is not even about the new meta or the overpowered exotic. It is much deeper than that. The official Destiny 2 tracker account shared a very clear-cut poll, ‘What is your favorite color of Kyber Crystal/Lightsaber?’ And, for sure, the Guardians were very talkative on this topic. It is the upcoming Star Wars crossover event where the players are already picking their Force sides just based on color. It is total disorder, but the good kind of disorder.
The very first thing that caught the attention of everyone was the traditional colors. Blue was the most favorite color, and it got the highest number of mentions. ‘Blue is and always will be my favorite,’ a player, Austin, commented with the kind of confidence that is usually applied to saying that the Earth is round. Another user, CATZ, said, ‘Blue. Always blue.’ as if it was a universal law. Green had its fans, too, with Lotti showing a🫣 emoji for ‘Green all the way.’ The supporters of red were also present. Lucifer Doggo jokingly inquired, ‘Red or whatever goes with the drapea?’ meaning that looking good is still part of the endgame even in a galaxy far, far away.
Isn’t it the most annoying? The entire thing is around the exotics. The Darksaber. The unique, flat-bladed black lightsaber from the Mandalorian universe is the ultimate dream for many of the voters. ‘Darksaber is my favorite, no question about it, especially noise wise,’ stated Enclave Here. Jim Cox just shared a gif of the weapon and wrote ‘Dark saber’ underneath, letting the picture speak for what he wanted to communicate. This brought about a very brief mini-thread about the accessibility issue. One participant, DanielLorde, seized the moment to forecast ‘I guess we are getting the black crystal from the Dungeon, until then Red.’ Which, by the way, makes perfect sense. It does look like the upcoming dungeon is the source, another user even validated him by saying ‘They showed it in the dungeon trailer a couple of weeks ago, it’s showing energy made to look like the Dark Saber’s blade.’
Then, the lore experts stepped in. MattGoesBuck was thinking aloud, ‘I wonder how many people really understand that the colors represent different things.’ Enter MasterJunior93 who laid down an absolute entry from the encyclopedia in the replies. We are talking about paragraphs. Blue for Jedi Defenders like Anakin. Green for Gurus like Yoda. Yellow for Sentinels. Purple for Mace Windu’s distinctive vibe. Red for Sith. White for Grey Jedi like Ahsoka. Black for the Darksaber that is one of a kind. It was a huge load. However, thedoomslayer81 quickly reacted, asserting ‘The colors do not mean anything in current canon as compared to legends,’ and so, the dispute still quite alive. A classic Star Wars fandom moment spilling right into Destiny.
Some replies were simply… wonderfully bonkers. ‘The pink one,’ tossed out Scottglowyboi, a true visionary. ‘I spotted a blue/green one. Turquoise perhaps? Yes, that,’ Sean Clayton was reflecting, actually inventing a new color at the moment. KenyonBurguess took the sarcastic route: ‘the one that is least offensive to my eyes while it collects dust in storage.’ Ouch. But maybe the most honest opinion came from nicholas reeve, who was just sick of it all: ‘Bungie couldn’t give me the DLC to come back…. D3 needs a big shot of testosterone before I think about buying it…’ Well, I guess not everyone is thrilled about the space wizard swords.
What is clear is that the seemingly trivial question has unleashed a tremendous torrent of excitement and personal engagement. This time, the players are not merely picking a color; they are choosing an identity. Are you a blue classic Jedi hero? A wise Force user with green? An edgy Mandalorian king with black? Or a Sith lord wannabe with red? It’s a cosmetic choice that feels heavier than most. And with confirmations from replies that the four main colors are probably the ones coming from the event—Blue, Green, Red, and the one from the dungeon Black—the speculation about their ways of acquisition is already fired up.
It’s incredible how a crossover can pull this off. Destiny 2 is about guns and the power of the cosmos, but throw a lightsaber in and all of a sudden everyone becomes a lore expert debating about canonical meanings and aesthetics. The community is massively involved, considering that it is just a new skin on an old thing. But that’s what Star Wars does to you, mate. It makes you care about the color of your laser sword. Bungie’s event is generating buzz on platforms like PlayStation and Xbox.
