Bungie has released something completely new focused on community for Destiny 2: Renegades, right? And it is… a huge thing. The developers have given it the name Oath of the Renegades, which in truth is an extensive event beyond the game where a player has to declare loyalty to a content creator acting as a ‘Syndicate Lieutenant.’ The whole concept is to have the support of your favorite streamer or YouTuber, be part of their little digital gang, and then face your gang against other syndicates led by creators. Winners of the syndicate will get their supporters streams chances to win Displates, Collector’s Editions, game codes, and so on as prizes. But what’s really tempting? The entire Destiny 2 community will get a new emblem in 2026 if the syndicate of the chosen creator wins. Right, you heard it correctly. 2026. I suppose we have to get planning for our wardrobe choices way in advance.

Meanwhile, the official explanation from the Destiny 2 team is all about fun, community, and new acquaintances. This is simply fabulous! Community events are one of the most pleasurable activities. There is a complete site for you to sign in, take the “oath” and pick your side. Although it is clearly a marketing strategy, it is also a challenge that seeks to gamify the player-creator relationship. Some gamers are really into it. A player, Lucifer_Doggo, was very thrilled indeed and declared “Real fun! TBF GGs for the @RickKackis and the red sexy đź’Ş” after reaching rank 2 on that creator’s side. They even said the implementation is “decent” and called it a “fun little side piece,” suggesting this time could be “peak destiny!”

On the one hand, the players are completely in agreement, but on the other hand, the reaction from the opposite side? Not so united. It’s like the Tower chat after a failed Grandmaster run—total chaos. One of the main points of disagreement is the focus on content creators. A player named John Sepe put it nicely when saying “You all know what people think of content creators, and you still do this lol.” Another one, just called Luke, recognized that it is a “good play from a marketing pov” but added that “as a player it leaves me cold. It’s like Call to Arms by proxy.” The view is that this is an event for streamers, marketed by streamers, and the ordinary player is just an additional number in their follower count.

And then there’s the technical issues. Or, should I say, the non-existent technical issues. This, by the way, is a classic Bungie scenario, to be honest. Many players are reporting that the website just… didn’t work for them. LividGrub_ went on a bit of a rant saying that the site was telling them their privacy settings were private even when they were not, calling the event a “bare minimum” “advertisement campaign” that “doesn’t reward players aka the people who keep your game alive.” Guardian2009 had the same experience and shared a shrug emoji, tagging people and hoping for help. When the landing page of your hype event is broken on the first day, it gives off a bad image, you know?

Some players are just not able to grasp the structure. Mbmanu11 raised a really good question: “Why isn’t this event listed or explained in game? It feels like only a few pre-selected creators get exposure.” That is a very good question! If it’s a community event, why is it hidden on a different website and just directing players to a certain list of influencers? It gives off this weird vibe where it is less about the community and more about promoting certain channels. Another player, ProSportsGuru93, was more straightforward: “Mmmm no. More in-game stuff. No need for the CC bullshit. I know it’s low-effort engagement but nahhhh this ain’t it.”

And of course, since it’s the internet, the replies turned into the usual dispute. One person criticizes the event and another responds by telling them to “stop whining and get better.” Someone complains about the site and another player blames their internet. One user, IngordKont, gave a very hot opinion: “Creator game. Made by creators. Cater to creators. I hope soon only creators will be left,” which is quite harsh. That gave rise to a nice conversation that ended with a “hope you have a bad day” from another user. Just another Tuesday in the Destiny community.

Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yes, the event. It’s happening. You can visit the site if it is working for you and declare your loyalty to a syndicate. The creators will be streaming on platforms like PlayStation and Xbox.
