A brand-new event has been introduced by Bungie in Destiny 2 called New Territories: Reclaim, within which the Vanguard are supposed to re-establish their borders in EDZ against the forces of the Conductor. This event is open to all players who simply need to go talk to Devrim Kay. The reception, however, has become overwhelmingly negative, with players airing out their frustration of the overall power grind, rewards, and the direction of the game.

Yep! Another thing just came out to join the parade of other things. New Territories: Reclaim, a whole new event in which the players go out to the EDZ and shall speak to Devrim in combating the Conductor’s forces together, reclaiming some borders or whatever. Would that sound good on paper?? Yeah. The players, though, aren’t having any of it this time.

The replies to that official Destiny 2 tweet are grim. I swear I haven’t seen such strong, almost unanimous fury poured out since the weapon sunsetting fiasco. Players are calling the activity outright “ass” and “trash” within minutes. One other guy just replied with “This ain’t it fam,” and that really encapsulates the sentiments well.

And they are not referring just to this specific activity here: they’re naming everything. Power grind is the number-one victim of aggression, with four or five comments begging Bungie to fix it. Chronz420: “can we fix this power grind? no point in playing if this is not fixed?” Summing up: if the very soul of your promotion system feels broken, why even engage with new content?

So that whole Destiny Rising thing keeps coming up?? Apparently, it is a mobile version of some sort, and people are ranting that it’s better than the real Destiny 2? That’d be the dumbest thing I’ve heard. You can hear comments such as: “Friendship has ended with destiny 2, im now friends with rising” and “Destiny rising is 10x better than d2, I don’t fucking get how.”

Some speakers are really precise as to what they’re requesting: ice breaker farm-able, smoke effects added, and another one complains about MIDA Multi-Tool not being “featured” despite a new shotgun for MIDA synergy just being released. The extent to which these complaints go speaks volumes on how invested people still are, even when they’re angry.

If anyone wants to predict new things, there’s always Eververse. “Eververse gets more updates than the game” – Classic remark, and it’s not getting old. It almost feels like the cosmetic store is getting more attention than the game now.

Other similar references to other games appear to be an intriguing distraction. Borderlands 4 is apparently dropping this Friday, Path of Exile 2 is thrown… players are searching in earnest for something to fill the interest void Destiny left for them. When your Hey Community is waxing other games in response to your announcement, that’s not a great sign.

The oddest part is that some players seem to think Plaguelands are back??? However, only as an activity, not as an open-level, has the latter making them angry. “_UrBankAccount_” is so upset: “Why…why didn’t you guys make Plaguelands an open location????? Why the fuck is it locked to an ACTIVITY????”

Trying to read through all those replies is sort of depressing, honestly. People still have the love for Destiny, but they’re just kind of tired. The comment from koalatycontrol sums it up: “Nah. I’m good. Not until power level stuff and scores are fixed. Not worth the time even though I love Destiny.” The phrase “even though I love Destiny” hits differently – nobody hates it; that’s disappointment from those who do care.

Even the technical stuff is getting called out. One person says it’s glitched; another points out that you need to jump through a spirit mission in the tower first before you go to EDZ — just basic quality-of-life improvements that are allegedly still lacking.

Bungie seems really stuck right about now; the players want new content but only after the core issues should be fixed, yet when the new content is out, it’s the old issues of lack of fixes that they’re up in arms about. It’s a cycle which has been going on for quite a while now, honestly.

I mean, it really feels like the Reclaim event itself could be alright, that’s if I ever get around to trying it. But when the community reacts so negatively from the get-go, it just crushes any sporadic excitement about it. Maybe it’s actually good and people are just salty about other stuff. Maybe it’s really as bad as they say it is. Either way, Bungie actually has to go and work to try and win trust again.

It’s wild because Destiny 2 has been through so many ups and downs already. Remember when everyone hated Curse of Osiris? When Shadowkeep’s moon felt empty? This feels different though – more like a general fatigue with the game’s systems than disappointment with one particular expansion.

Anyway, the New Territories: Reclaim event is live now if you want to test the waters. Go visit Devrim Kay in the EDZ. But I hope you keep your expectations low, with what the community is saying. Or just follow the crowd to Borderlands 4’s launch on Friday.
