Bungie has released a new shader-grabbing trick for Destiny 2 players, which requires Discord participation among others. The ‘Inkdrawn’ shader is available but the only requirement is to complete a brief quest first. In other words, after taking the quest through Discord, moving to the Destiny 2: Renegades game for a mere 30-minute running, and a code for the shader will be issued. Simple, right? However, the response from the gaming community is by no means unanimous. It is pretty much a free cosmetic but players are still demanding from Bungie a whole list of things that are not connected at all with this shader.

Nevertheless, the announcement of the free shader was spread like wildfire by the official Destiny 2 account via a tweet containing links for sign-ups and redemption. The looks of the shader are very nice; the drawn, inky style will probably be so that the braves as well as the silvers can use it. Still, one can find in the comments that the shader has not really aroused the interest of the players who, at present, are quite eager to get it. The discussions soon moved on to a myriad of other and much more urgent issues with the game that the community is struggling with.

The server trouble reports are one of the issues that players are facing and they have been flooding the online gaming forums. The user, KC_4191, simply posted the ‘Error Code: Baboon’ which can hardly be a good thing. His friend, TheDK2025, asked if he was kicked, and yes, it does seem like a lot of players were having a hard time getting connected. It is really inconvenient when this happens just at the time when you want to introduce a new activity. Besides the connection problems, the whole Discord linking issue came up. A user, tommysouthside1, pointed out that the Discord mobile app was not showing his PSN activity and he went on to call it a feature that was ‘still in BETA.’ Another user, FrustratedGame4, offered a solution by sharing online activity settings but it is evident from the comments that this integration is not working smoothly for everyone.

And it is at this point that the real substance of the complaints comes forth. MlcLucian’s post was a perfect representation of the mood: ‘Only shaders… all the good stuff are behind eververse.. we asked for more cosmetics in the game that we can earn but not just shaders… eververse is full of amazing skins! Let some out!’ That is a thought that has been echoing for years. Players want thrilling, earnable items in the in-game stores, not just another shader while the most splendid armor ornaments are still confined to the real-money shop. It is a never-ending battle.

The PvP community is another that is unhappy. the user concept_null exploded with a rant against Behemoth Titans and super spamming in the 1v1 invasion mode, insisting that gun battles are ruined when ‘every noob pulls an at-st out of their behind or spams thundercrash.’ He cried out to Bungie to at least ‘pretend that you care about the balance of invasions.’ Ouch! Another player, Revjerryo, bluntly said, ‘A new shader and crucible filled with cheaters. Nice. Man, you guys are terrible.’ The competitive scene indeed feels a little neglected amidst all this cosmetic promotion.

On the other hand, there were some humorous moments and one simply has to acknowledge it. KC_4191 jokingly said that Warlocks could only get more excited if Bungie made a ‘Darth Maul Cloak for Warlocks and the Double-Sided Lightsaber.’ FIERCEDEGAMER requested a helmet ornament with Jar Jar Binks’ head on it. And DaFonkster87 is on a solo campaign, day 8 of asking Bungie for the Renegades soundtrack to be released. Not all comments displayed annoyance; there is also a lot of the typical, strange Destiny community humor.

A few users were even left confused because the quest was not really new new. AdamWright94079 inquired, ‘Hold on how is it new when it’s what I got last week from the discord quest?’ Elyrium42 referred to it as a ‘slightly delayed twitter post’ and KazSenpai1 agreed that they are not particularly good at communicating such things in a timely manner. So, some players had received it already which made the announcement sound a little obsolete.

Moreover, the competition rivalry between shooters that loot will always be a part of the Destiny discussion thread. User Insanely_Eddy02 apparently made a comment (not in the direct replies that we have, but referred to) that was possibly disparaging to the promotion and it triggered a mini-debate. TheSaltyKing47 countered, ‘Damn. A free promo from Xbox and PlayStation players are still fighting.’
