A rather animated 2026 starts with Destiny 2 account review that left everybody from the very first post of the year announcing community events winners, new soundtracks, and even a fund-raising event among the first surprised ones. The release of the game announcement did not include any major news regarding the game’s future or the much-anticipated roadmap, however, it was instantly and widely criticized by the player community, who expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation and called for communication about the main problems in the game.

The TWID post of the year was community oriented and so Bungie seemed to have gone back from the festive season. The players’ reaction was, however, quite the opposite of what was expected and in fact, it was worse than anticipated. The highlights of the post were pretty usual when it comes to this type of announcements: Bungie revealed the winners of the Dawning writing and design contests, announced that the new “Renegades” soundtrack is now on YouTube, and reminded everyone that the Game2Give charity is kicking off soon. Besides, they mentioned some changes about the New Player Guide. How nice. However, that was it. Not much more than a breadstick—no meat or potatoes.

What came from the community could be put into words of a collective sigh followed by a roar. The comments were very good at displaying gamer disappointment. One of the gamers, Ped Mendoza, was very straightforward. He stated, “Seriously, a TWID for this nonsense? When do we get a Bungie roadmap? Players are getting fed up.” This was pretty much the feeling all over. The user called ‘shawn’ characterized the update as “a complete useless waste of time of a twid.” A player named Fingolfin simply remarked, “No roadmap? You guys are toast!” It is quite obvious that after the last major content drop, the players feel like they are in a situation of filling up with nothing and are doing their best to even get a whisper of what is coming next.

The criticism was not only aimed at the absence of a roadmap. Gamers actually pointed to specific long-standing issues that they considered completely ignored. Mareese asked for “some pvp focused nerfs and buffs.” Kingduke said, “Fix lobby balancing.” Another player, Conqueeftador, even sneaked in a bug report about a Trials of Osiris shader not dropping correctly into his comment, which illustrates how people are trying to get issues noticed by any means possible. Besides, there was a new character deletion system that limited the deletions to five per day and had a 24-hour cooldown, which confused the users; one of them, ‘Sackman,’ was confused and asked why the new system was being rolled out. Another comment indicated that it was to prevent people from abusing the system by making new characters, which… makes sense but still points to the fact that sometimes systems are built around stopping the bad guys instead of just being fun.

The frustration, in fact, morphed into a huge meme. The user, ‘bennijin’ posted a GIF of a person opening an empty box with the text “Opening the TWAB to find nothing” below it. ‘Diego Barrera’ shared a GIF of someone sarcastically slowly clapping. ‘gonbeltal’ commenting said it “felt like reading a chapter of chainsaw man, except this was not exciting.” Ouch. Even the New Player Guide update was criticized – user ‘Joe (cubescore 0)’ noted that the link in the guide led to a broken Google search for “amor cuistomizatio ndestiny 2”. This was not a very opening experience for newcomers!

There were a few players who tried to support Bungie’s position by stating that the first update after the holiday break is to be expected. User ‘Salty’ explained to someone, “You thought they were going to have something important after they almost confessed to knowing that they have been off for holidays? You guys are acting as if this is not the same thing that literally happens every year. The first one of the year has always nothing in it.” And honestly, they do have a point! This is indeed a trend. However, the counter-argument from ‘Andrew Bellino’ was also very good: “They should have the same mentality before the holidays.” It is a classic conflict between developers and players – the developers need a break, but the players are the ones who get left behind in the lull and their patience starts to wear off.

A player by the name of ‘Braxus The Last Bubble Titan’ expressed it quite accurately: “I have to quit expecting the absolute minimum from you guys.” That’s exactly the feeling. The goodwill is fading after the years of this cycle. When ‘Lolo’ said “Might as well have taken another week off” it resonated with many. The community is clearly discussing the future of the game on platforms like PlayStation and Xbox.
