The Trials of Osiris can be participated in this weekend in Destiny 2, in spite of some players raising relevant issues pertaining to the special ammo economy. An official timeline for the next Trials was issued by dmg04, the community manager, and responses were soon overwhelmed with curse words complaining about how horrible the Trials mode is right now.

The big deal? Well, maybe the ammo system is broken right now. Players spawned with special ammo AND were gaining way too much ammo from crates in between rounds. I mean, really. Special ammo meter? You’re filling me with ammo! User Z just asked dmg04: “Are we meant to be getting so much special ammo between rounds?? Kinda kills the whole point of the special ammo meter.” It’s a point worth considering, though.

But the complaints have hardly stopped there. The players continued to yell that this baneply broken system incentivizes very campy playstyles. Quoting tmo🎀: “People being special pigs is already just boring to play against… it’s unrewarding and encourages people just to camp out for half a round.” Oof. I cannot imagine it’s much fun if it’s like getting tea-bagged by a full stack of Trials sweats.

And wait, there’s more! The replies open up a whole laundry list of others currently plaguing Trials. Some players can’t even access the mode due to solo ops requirements (shoutout to ForGive’s frustrated tweet: “Can’t even play trial have to do solo ops 😒”). Others have been begging for cheater bans on Asian servers, with a few just grinding out their 20 round wins for the week like poor Redskinrich who’s already apologizing to future teammates: “If I get paired with any peeps on xbox I do apologize.”

The special ammo situation is yet the biggest pain in the ass. It’s just so many questioning why Bungie would ever put such a system in place. SeaSnippers just bluntly asked, “Why even have a meter if you always spawn with ammo and can get more from crates?” Meanwhile, THE TEFLON DON pleas’d the current system either to be kept or the crates to be removed completely, else he says, “trials will be unplayable.”

Layers of other issues are mounting up, revealed in the replies. Players started unable to even enter Trials because of Solo Ops requirements (shoutout to ForGive’s tweet: “Can’t even play trial have to do solo ops 😒”). Others are begging for cheaters to get banned in Asian servers, while some are just grinding out their 20 round wins for the week just like poor Redskinrich who’s already apologizing to future teammates: “If I get paired with any peeps on xbox I do apologize.”

Still, the special ammo is undoubtedly the real headache going on right now. Practically every player asks the question as to why Bungie would have even placed such a system in existence to begin with. SeaSnippers basically asked, “Why even have a meter if you always spawn with ammo and can get more from crates?” THE TEFLON DON meanwhile passionately pleads that the current system should either be kept as it is, or the crates themselves should be removed. Otherwise, he says, “trials will be unplayable.”

They have some sneaking nostalgia amidst all of the groaning. Players started reminiscing of the “burnout double special weekend” which was allegedly broken but somehow managed to be way more fun than today’s state. “It was broken but it made the weekend so good,” DanniOsu! tweeted, hinting that the experience glitches sometimes turned out to be more fun than intended.

Needless to say, there’s dissension. Anthony The Philosopher took this opportunity to express gratitude to dmg04 and Sony for their work on the expansion, which was… nice? But nearly all other comments are dripping with dissent. Some of the players are already dismissing this Trials weekend altogether, with Al tweeting: “Oh, you saved my time to not touch trials this week, I appreciate it 🙏🏼”

The major question: Would Bungie come about and fix the issues even before Trials even start? With threats to boycott the whole event already underway (Cryptic: “So not worth playing” said all), one could only wish for a speedy fix. Be it special ammo economy, stat tracking, or cheaters, it is obvious that players have a sizable wishlist going.

One thing’s for sure – if these issues go unaddressed, we may have an empty Trials lobby come this weekend. Considering Trials is struggling to keep players, that’s a bad sign for Destiny 2’s crown PvP experience. Here’s hoping Bungie finds a way to fix things before the matches even start.
