Bungie has lately come out with the last teaser for Destiny 2‘s leading expansion Renegades, and the community is absolutely buzzing. The official Twitter account of Destiny 2 sent out quite an unsettling tweet just four days before the release, supposedly from the antagonist of the story, which says, “I give you this charity: a place in my legend.” The tweet was accompanied by a hyperlink and very scary visuals which, along with the public’s reaction, have raised the anticipation to an extent where it is about to be the most captivating chapter in the whole Destiny universe.
So what is really cooking with Renegades? To tell you the truth it is a big new content drop for Destiny 2 and the teaser of the new villain looks pretty fascinated as it seems that the antagonist is offering players a place in his…legend? That’s a pretty creepy way of inviting someone to fight. The scary art depicts a Cabal-like character and the players are already looking into every detail of it.
The response from the Destiny community has been a mixture of complete excitement and the usual complaints, which is more or less the signature of the gaming community. One gamer, @liamaccollector, articulated very well the general feeling when he wrote: “Tuesday can’t come quick enough, super excited for this.” This was the similar feeling among others, as @TriiGz was just shouting “CAN’T WAIT FOR TUESDAY!” in all caps which happens sometimes when excitement just can’t be contained.
But then it wouldn’t be called a Destiny reveal if it didn’t have some community-driven humor and doubt along with it. @Kernell__ quickly made the new villain ‘Ghaul 2 Electric Boogaloo,’ referring to the antagonist from the Red War who was killed a few years back. And @AnnieThinktwice commented, “I really have a love/hate relationship with this game…guess I’ll come back to try it …one..more..time” with an eye-roll emoji that is a sort of emblem of everything that is no good with the game at the moment, and thus signaling the love-hate relationship that many of the older players have with the game.
The fashion game is already quite strong as well- @Metasthetic shared their Guardian, all geared up and ready to go, with the caption ‘Ready 🫡’ and was appreciated by @K1ngMo94 who termed it ‘sick fashion brother 🔥’. Likewise, @pardus_prime was baffled by a minuscule design element on the new villain and complained about ‘this tiny little stretch of white’ which he claimed, and was perhaps only metaphorically speaking, ruins the whole aesthetic for him. I mean, really, you’re confronting a legendary menace and your concern is about the color coordination of the villain?
Some gamers are already considering the issue of the bunch. @chris_234__uhhh and @fuzzymanboob asked Bungie to allow users to pre-load the expansion four times earlier, as no one would like to spend the day of the launch watching a loading bar instead of shooting aliens. @HeyHeyItsMr_J asked a very real question regarding whether it is worth it to buy the Echoes of Forever expansion that includes the previous expansion while it is on sale or just Renegades alone.
Lore theorists are already at work as well. @tash__i put forward a theory that we might actually be able to join factions this time, asking if ‘House of Eliksni welcomes us or what?’ with a thinking emoji. @FlummGumm said he was particularly interested in the ‘light saber’ weapon that was shown in the creator videos praising the ‘high customization’ that sounds ‘super awesome.’
Voice acting even got mentioned and @Pattawan06 asked ‘Who voices him again?’ and gets to know from @chris_234__uhhh that it is Danny Huston, a real Hollywood actor who has just made a new threat from the universe of Destiny! @Jdog_TheFenrir called the villain ‘horrifyingly beautiful’ and showed his thrill about the forthcoming fight.
Naturally, there’s always someone around with very specific grievances – @s1xxaxx1s, who claims 7,000 hours in Destiny 2, has been using the monster’s appearance as an occasion to beg Bungie to ‘fix the character screen when on Prismatic’ calling it an ‘eyesore.’ And @boptard unveiled that they are still ‘out’ unless ‘the sparky ball and portal gun are gone,’ implying that some issues go back a long way.
But what is the general verdict? Hype is indeed real. The community is truly ready. In a mere four days’ time Guardians will plunge into the new world of either horror or heaven that Bungie has made ready to them. Whether this new world shall be the one with the legendary promise is still uncertain but what is certain is that PlayStation and Xbox players will experience it together.
