The news that came out yesterday simply set the internet ablaze for anime and fighting game lovers-Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 has now been included in the PlayStation Tournaments, allowing the players to join in the anime battlefield and compete in a rare competitive match amongst themselves. It was the official PlayStation Twitter handle that dropped the announcement, and the reactions went from hype to confusion to random chaos.
First, let’s talk about the game briefly. The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is the sequel to the arena fighting game based on the crazily popular Demon Slayer anime. Ever wanted to throw Water Breathing techniques at real-life opponents alongside Tanjiro or zip around with lighting speed strikes like Zenitsu? Now’s your chance for that. And PlayStation Tournaments endorsing it is surely giving you much more reason to sharpen your swords.
And the reply section had truly become a roller coaster of excitement and rage. Some gamers were hype; Nolan Carter blissfully exclaimed, “This game will be fire🔥,” while Buddy Boy Bets kept the hype going, “anime battlefield just got more intense.” Others were already begging for some DLC, with Roland Norbert B questioning, “Ok but when is Zenitsu getting his own OP DLC?âš¡”
A number of them were disappointed, though. Alimighti stated a popular complaint: “Great, another fighting game that supports PlayStation tournaments and the prizes are just only avatars and the tournaments are not even available in my region.” Ouch. Meanwhile, InfinityGlock99 was legit confused: “What really happens in PlayStation tournaments? Can someone tell?” (short answer: You fight, you win, you get bragging rights and sometimes digital goodies.)
Then…it got a little weird. BlankmanTT accused PlayStation of harboring child abusers, which…uh, definitely not the sort of buzz PlayStation was hoping to generate around the announcement. The announcement probably wouldn’t have been complete without the usual desperate requests for the next console; shoutout to chiiiiwoody and Flourish4545 for dropping, “Announce ps6 plzzzz” and “I can’t wait for ps6 🙈” right on cue.
One player, Juan.drz, amid the chaos, expressed the joy of a small victory: “Hoy gané uno jeje” (translation: “Today I won one hehe”). Congrats, Juan. You’re the real MVP here.
So, what are these PlayStation Tournaments, really? Basically, it’s a way for players to compete in official events for prizes—usually avatars, themes, or occasionally cash. The structure differs but this is really just another occasion for Demon Slayer fans to show their spirit as highest. Be it for glory, the skins, or just finally seeing how far they can last against someone who knows what they are doing, it essentially gives new meaning to interacting with the game.
Now, will this thrust Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 into being the next big esports fighter? Probably not-it’s still very much an anime arena brawler at heart. But for the series’ fans, it is a wonderful icing on top to keep the game alive and kicking. And at the very least, it gives them something to do while waiting for that alleged Zenitsu DLC.
Right then! Grab your Nichirin Blade, fire up that PlayStation, and carve a path to victory. Just be forewarned—steer clear of those Twitter replies!
