When it comes to welcoming fresh folks onto PlayStation, there couldn’t have been a more apt opening. The official Twitter account of the survival game posted a hype post directed at newcomers, linking in some tutorial playlists with a plea that vets go easy on them. Among the responses were classic excitement, rage, and downright insanity.
First and foremost, the devs are clearly trying to soften the brutal learning curve by dropping a beginner tutorial link. The irony is not lost on someone who knows that in DayZ your first-day lesson usually involves being thrown into the deep end and asked to swim. For instance, you spawn in on a beach and within literally 20 seconds timespan, you’ve been domed (first kill shot) by someone fully kitted out. That is the first-day experience of DayZ! One player, Chris (@warmachine15188), expressed a sentiment most players carry in just a few words: “Been in the game for 20 minutes and can’t figure anything out. I get killed on the beach by fully armed people as soon as I spawn in. This game is garbage.” It stabs right in the gut!
And that’s exactly the community reaction. Pure DayZ energy! Some folks demanded cross-play (@bxtechy52 screaming “CROSSSSS PLAYYYYYY!!!” as if the world depended on it), while others damned the very idea of tutorials. Kieran Campbell (@10000miles_away) summed up the vibe quite nicely: “Tutorials for new players on DayZ. Shakes head in disappointment. The relentless deaths are part of the journey wondering wtf did me in this time.” Word.
Helpful community? Asking for help in-game? Lol. That’s a good one. Frederick Lowe (@Mongolow63) puts it optimally: “Use to play but was hard when every step you was being killed by players. Even when you try to ask for help. So that won’t go far.” Pure DayZ–where seeing someone showing kindness is rarer than a can of beans.
And, of course, the usual suspects unarguably entered the fray to add in some: Fix anti-cheat (@ricardeau9), update this for next-gen (@Alanphysique_), improve base-building mechanics (@MegatonMung), and let’s not forget the plea for the discount (@TheoTNT09). Priorities, man.
The servers apparently got crashed with weekend rush (@ihaas802: “Now the servers run like shit!”). They got extra servers up, but hey? When has DayZ ever been smooth? Charm, or pain? Your call.
Best moment? Kryer (@KryerMan) saying he enjoyed watching highly geared dudes “teach their friends how to play,” followed by snowballing on the teaching. “My stuff now 🤤” Savage.
So yeah, DayZ remains a mess acting beautiful whenever it wants. All the best, newbies; you will need all of it. Veterans, try not to wipe them off the map just yet. And devs, what about this anti-cheat, eh? Just a thought.
Oh, and #BeansNotBullets? Cute hashtag. Too bad no one cares.
