Bohemia Interactive has not only given out their holiday treat to the DayZ players but has also been good to them with lots of gifts. The studio came up with a 2025 Year in Review article and one of the most significant revelations was the bike that had been talked about in connection with the apocalypse and now it is coming, being officially confirmed. Along with the announcement came a chic in-game movie that demonstrated the motorcycles and scooters speeding through the lovely forest and gamers are already going nuts- both the quiet and the expressive.
What’s the good news, then? DayZ, the hardest survival game that has been very tough on players for over ten years, is going to have a very new and cool method of transport. The trailer shows different sorts of two-wheeled vehicles, ranging from small motocross bikes to what looks like a scooter, all riding through meadows and leaving behind a cloud of dust. It is a situation that holds out promise of a new type of chaotic fun for the survivors. The DayZ account’s official tweet was very joyous and festive, it said, “Have a wonderful holiday season. We are fond of you.❤️” along with the link to the whole Year in Review article. However, as it always happens with this game, the player reactions are a mix of pure excitement and a heavy front of skeptical sorts.
It is actually the hype that is reflected in the player. Minh Thành Nguyễn, a gamer, expressed his thrill, ‘Finally bikes after 11 years! Zipping through the apocalypse with the squad is gonna be chaos.’ Others, however, like MollyMagoo, only said it ‘looked like so much FUN!!!!’ The thought of a faster and freer move in a place where a threat could be hiding at every corner is undeniably thrilling. This may definitely change the ways of player interactions such as navigating, escaping, or just playing around. The community member Merlin dubbed the video ‘👌,’ and in fact, the bikes are portrayed in action and they look quite smooth. Almost as smooth as anything can be in the wonderfully chaotic world of DayZ.
But then… the other side of the coin appears. A considerable portion of the gamers’ immediate gut reaction can be summed up in one word: glitches. Player Ant made an extravagant remark: ‘I can picture myself dying 100000 times while going 5kmh on a straight path. Cars are still glitching all over, imagine the scenario with bikes 😂.’ This sentiment is being replicated all along the comments. The saga of the vehicles in DayZ is, let’s say, colorful. For a long time, cars were infamous for being fatal traps, unpredictable at best, that either got you stuck in the ground or shooting up to the sky. The developers have invested a lot of resources in making the vehicles stable, but the past keeps haunting.
This prompted a small discussion in the comments section. Ant’s post was the trigger for a thread. User paranoialq simply replied: ‘No, they don’t,’ implying that cars function normally. Then Rustycaddy chimed in: ‘Cars have been fixed since early this year; what’s your point, lol?’ Another gamer, Samuel “S-Dog” Clarkson told his opinion that the performance is map-dependent and that the problems are ‘worst on Chernarus.’ So there is a division. Some players insist that the old bugs are totally gone, while the others still suffer from the classic DayZ jankiness. This history is the reason why the bike announcement brings such a delicious mix of excitement and fear. Player JF_Arts_ put it very crisply: ‘Looking forward to seeing the potential fun bugs.’
The teaser also showed a brief image of a player who looked like he was holding a rocket launcher which led the player Dcypled to exclaim: ‘So… what I see is a moped and a dirt bike (cool)… and a mutha freaking bazooka!?!?’ It is a classic DayZ strategy – introducing a huge new gun with a vehicle teaser and letting the community argue about it. Speculation has already begun.
Besides the bikes, the replies also point to other long-standing community requests. Especially console players made their wishes heard. For instance, Spadezzz06 asked, ‘Can us PS5 players get DayZ PS5 edition, please,’ while Mind219 sighed, ‘Man, videos like this make me want console to be able to host our server.’ The demand for a native next-gen version and more server management for console players is always there in the background of every major announcement. There is also a significant Xbox player base with similar desires.
Then there is the… strange commentary. Krombomb, a gamer, took a sarcastic shot, saying they expected the focus to be on ‘eliminating the enormous number of cheaters’ instead of ‘bringing backflips to DayZ.’ He even added, ‘But hey F it, let’s
