The verified Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account has just unveiled a small and mysterious teaser, which reads among other things, “Itโs all in the cards…” along with eyeball emojis and the tag of WeirdCo Games – the company that made the card. This is it, the whole thing, however, the simplest teasing can get the biggest reactions, and that’s exactly what happened here.
Speculations from players all over the globe started immediately, responding one after the other. One of the most circulating theories is that CD Projekt Red is finally going to launch genuine tarot cards reflecting Misty’s character in the game. Do you remember those? The odd, mystical tarot cards that were scattered around Night City and were closely related to the main narrative? A player by the name of Alox even commented, “feels like it’s gonna be Misty’s tarot cards”, and to be honest? It makes a lot of sense. Another gamer, Dman, actually made a plea “Please be the tarot cards, I want a deck of them so bad”, and we thought the same thing. The need for those cards is definitely there.
However, there are even more theories that are being discussed. Someone going by the name of NeroNoir is wishing for “metal tarot cards with the cyberpunk artwork,” and that does sound pretty cool actually. Just picture having a complete metal deck with all that Cyberpunk artwork. Definitely, a collector’s item. And then there’s JZ who simply declared “Cyberpunk Gwent? Hell yeah,” which is not a bad guess but also quite bold; however, if you consider how the company CD Projekt has dealt with card games in The Witcher, it is not completely irrational. Personally, I do think the tarot card theory is much more likely, though.
The players’ reactions are just comical. Some are already fully convinced without even knowing what it is. GJX just wrote “๐ค SOLD,” which is very much relatable. It is like, whatever it is, just take my money. Leon said “Iโve heard enough, Iโm in” and added a gif of someone handing over money. Meanwhile, Joe M is almost like “oooh what is this?! ๐๐๐” and that is indeed my reaction when I saw the tweet. The tension is unbearable for each and everyone.
On the contrary, not everyone is enthusiastic about the cards. One user, cisiel23 remarked, “Steam Frame VR mode will be way better than cards ๐” which is a legitimate point; however, why not have both? And then Cyclolio is already ahead, posing the question “Cyberpunk 5-year update with flying cars on PS5 and PS5 Pro update with RT” like, dude, we are yet to find out what this card thing is and you are already asking for the next game? Just chill out.
It is very intriguing that they have teamed up with WeirdCo Games. Who are they, anyway? A quick search shows that they specialize in gaming merchandise and collectibles, which really aligns with the idea of releasing the physical product. Probably no new game mode or any digital stuff, but real-world merchandise that you can actually feel. To be honest, we have consumed a lot of digital content, and now it would be great to see some awesome physical merchandise.
The replies to the replies are also very funny. For instance, Alox and Lilayah were involved in the cutest reaction gif exchange, where neither was saying anything but just conveying their thoughts through memes. Thatโs how you can tell that something has hit the cultural shift – when people stop using words and simply rely on gifs.
This tease’s timing is quite fascinating as well. For instance, Cyberpunk 2077 has a wonderful comeback trail in the past two years, from a game that launched poorly and was unplayable to a good game with all the patches and the Phantom Liberty expansion. The game has finally gotten into a good spot where the developers may sell and introduce new collectibles to the already engaged community. People love the universe and want to be part of it.
Moreover, there is a strong possibility that if the tarot cards inspired by Misty’s designs are launched, they will be sold out in no time. Just think how magnificent it would be to have the Fool, The Magician, all of the major arcana cards with that specific Cyberpunk aesthetic. The cards could either be used for divination or just be displayed as art. Either way, it would be a meaningful and cherished item for the game’s fans.
Some international comments are hilarious too. For instance, there is one in Arabic that literally says “ูุด ุนูุฏูู ุ” Meaning “What do you have” which is more less the question everybody can’t wait to be answered. The other one in Portuguese, however, is asking Grok AI about its opinion on the teaser, which is quite a modern way of responding to something – asking an AI about a game teaser.
