With the very first REDStreams show by the development team over at CD Projekt Red, it would be a fantastic marketing opportunity to promote what Update 2.3 means for Cyberpunk 2077. And the opinions? They seeded all over the mapoo-they varied from the ranks of loud cheers to complete and total ranting, and quite a large number chose to remain confused.
The stream went live today, showing vehicle customization, extension of photo mode options, and support for FSR 4. As cool as all of this sounds, the big portion of the community expected… well, way more.
One crux of the criticism is: New Game Plus. Players have been begging for NG+ since launch, and again, not a trace of it. “No NG+ in an RPG is insane,” one said. “Why update lame photo mode stuff that 99% of people don’t care about? Just add NG+!”
Then, on to this Delamain versus Autodrive issue. The update leaves one pretty confused: “I’m confused. What’s the point?” Great question.
The one PS5 keyboard and mouse support waiting game, too: “STILL no KBM for PS5 is a big L. HUGE L!” one user complained. Others meanwhile are baffled about the absence of a PS5 Pro patch, with one player just coming out and saying, “Are you just in hatred for PS5 Pro?”
Some are definitely hyped for new car options and the FSR 4 update. One tweet reads, “Fire update,” while another says, “Expected more, but the quality-of-life changes are awesome.” New cars get a “sick” mention too, certainly though not “the new thing.”
That was, basically, all the disappointment going around, though: “Months of work just for… more cars and more car colors?” read another tweet. “Wow, exactly what I was hoping for in an RPG!” followed by another comment that the update “should’ve been an email.”
Double down on “missed opportunity” especially after the developers streamed themselves getting everyone hyped. “They could have just posted this on Twitter,” one person commented. “Nothing to really talk about.” Some people even called the show a “waste of time” because it failed to address big fan requests like further cyberware or postgame content.
Still, a handful chimed in with, “Hey, free updates are better than none.” Another replied: “You’re literally getting free additional content for a 5-year-old game. We’re lucky to get anything.”
So what does this leave us with? Well, Update 2.3 is here. It’s… fine, I suppose. Though for a game that has been trying to recoup player’s trust, this feels like a missed opportunity. The community wants meaningful RPG additions—not more ways to take pretty screenshots.
Maybe next time, CDPR. Maybe next time.
