Now, Cyberpunk 2077 has reached an important milestone. It has been five years since the player became a part of the whole mess of the Neon City atmosphere with its brightness and rain. Can you fathom that? Every one of us can solo that it seems just like yesterday when all the players had in mind was to settle the arguments of the glitches that were scattered all over the place during the launch and now… in fact, the very same Twitter account of the game has just tweeted an emotional thank you letter, branding the city on the “mindful of stories” and us, the gamers, the victors. In a bit more detail – V. This is really a nice share and the accompanying collage photo with a lot of player-created V’s was just as good. It has been a beautiful love letter to the community that stayed loyal.
What was the reaction? It was a total flood, my friend. The pure, raw energy of Night City was coming through. There were players like Matt (MdeavorVP) going crazy just because his green-haired V received a place in the official picture. “No way one of mine made it in,” he wrote, and this feeling is simply the coolest one. Others like GrimnirThe well expressed their troubles somewhat; they were wishing their V had been informed about the invitation so that they could have captured a moment with the two of them together. Nevertheless, the general atmosphere was one of very large-scale gratitude. Peej@y summed it up in one line: “We are the ones who should be grateful to you for this masterpiece.” After the tough start, such a shift in feelings is nothing less than a miracle.
But this is Night City, choom. It is not always just hugs and thanksgiving. The replies were a beautiful mixture of affection, requests, and the typical Cyberpunk edge. Almost immediately, the questions started coming in. “New Game Plus?🥹👉👈” begged Nikanimiii, voicing a desire that has been on the community’s wish list for literally years. Others, like Pablo, viewed the anniversary as a business opportunity: “Can we have some more? ‘Stories from Night City”… It’s a money printer…. Just do it.” I agree with him! The thirst for new content in this world is simply astounding.
Then, of course, there is the customary, incredibly funny cynicism that characterizes the whole fandom. Black Dumpling flatly turned down the premise: “V isn’t a hero. V was never a hero. The only thing heroic about V is her ability to think she’s funny when she’s not.” Yikes. But, this is also kinda true, seen from a certain perspective, depending on your playthrough. Beansbeluga3 even challenged it, posting a screenshot of their V doing something not very brave and asking: “Are you sure she is a hero?” It’s this beautiful chaos that stands as evidence that the players have really made the role their own.
Probably, the practical side of it all came up too. User l_pachl expressed his gratitude to CD Projekt Red for their not giving up on the game, and for applying patches continuously, but he also said, “Still work to be done on the game. Still a lot of bugs. I do hope the game is not done receiving bug fixes?” It is an argument that cannot be ignored. The game is in the perfect state now, especially after the 2.0 upgrade and Phantom Liberty, but the shadow of its opening still keeps the players on alert. Others are speculating the future already. For instance, eruyuzaeru tweeted “New patch confirmed, soon” and foxrayet asked, “When are we getting the livestream?? The hype train never really stops in this city.
The most incredible part by far is to see new players coming around the corner. AlexxorTV tweeted about just getting the game, calling himself “ADDICTED” and praising the insane attention to detail and rich storylines. The power of the comeback story is here. On the other hand, veteran players like FLAYED_MOJO saluted “since December 2020 on big PS4” at the same time acknowledging, “it’s better on PC 😂🥲.” The journey that this game has had has been a rollercoaster ride—across platforms and perceptions.
Also, there was very cute international communication with Polish gamers, Cant_Play_Games, and EmpolodX, joking about which mouse they are playing on and that they have already got a Switch 2. Kin_eras also wrote in Portuguese referring to it as a “Jogo lindo dá porra” (which is a very enthusiastic “Beautiful game, damn!”). And he is wishing for five more years even if he can only play via Boosteroid. The love is universal.
