Let’s put all of the cards on the table, here; playing through Cyberpunk 2077 on PC is almost as much of a pain in the neck as it is on console, although we’re able to dodge some of the more egregious forms if we frontload enough power by purchasing high-end equipment and plugging it in.

Adding mods to dodge a bit of the dumber issues, such as the blurry shortcut on the desktop or V jogging everywhere when escorting an NPC while they try to talk to the back of your head, can also help the experience as a whole.

Ultimately, however, this ship wasn’t built watertight no matter how much power you throw at it or how many mods you try to add, and it shows with every hotfix that CD Projekt Red is frantically sending out at the moment.

Hotfix 1.06 just released all of an hour ago from CD Projekt Red, and we have all of three hotfixes within the patch.

Quests

  • Dum Dum will no longer go missing from Totentanz entrance during Second Conflict.

Console-specific

  • Improved memory management and stability, resulting in fewer crashes.

PC-specific

  • Removed the 8 MB save file size limit. Note: this won’t fix save files corrupted before the update.

Whew, lads: the fix we’ve been waiting for, this isn’t.

Granted, it does stop saves from getting corrupted if users craft too much, which helps users still attempting to struggle along with the title use another mechanic, but this is far from ship-shape.

Combat music continues to play well after objectives are completed, forcing a restart or for users to grin and bear a repetitive yet ear-bleeding loop until they close the game. Infinite health triggers occasionally within missions, letting V walk around with immortality.

Combat can bleed into cutscenes, making numerous moments where Johnny Silverhand takes multiple shotgun blasts to the face while he’s waning nostalgic about the days before the corporate overlords. It’s funny the first few times, but the humor wears out quickly.

And if Delamain doesn’t shut the hell up with his thirty missions that trigger all over the map, crowding out the journal and buzzing you every three minutes about trying to find a car that revolves around the disappointing driving, I will personally go and corrupt his core AI.

This isn’t ‘hot-fix’ territory, this isn’t the same level that Bethesda releases their scuffed titles for the community to fix with unofficial patches.

It sucks, but Sony frankly had this right. Remove the game from the shelves until CDPR removes their head from their fourth point of contact, and be cautious of the studio in the future. Forcing the developers into an unending crunch because your executives are unable to communicate to the public that the title needs work seems…dystopic.
