So, not long ago, Call of Duty issued a spooky message on social media that was remotely looked upon by the majority of its followers including the ones involved directly. The official account shared, “That ‘uhh…he’s right behind me’ feeling….🔪” with a little bit of media and the responses are already of a different atmosphere altogether.
Let’s start by getting the complete story from the beginning. According to what the game developers have indicated above, it might be a case of a hidden melee kill or emote or game play issue for the guy sneaking up behind you. It’s the classic horror flick moment when the viewer is unsure if the presence will be confirmed or not with a slight turn. The knife emoji definitely indicates that this is a related melee takedown scenario.
In contrast, the community’s reactions were nothing less than mayhem. While some players are on the same wavelength as Twokats Studio, who came with a wild “oh my gosh 😮🛰️💥” reply, I can honestly say—to that I say—as if! Then there are players like TheJACKEDPACKAGE, who are raising the question “Is this still cod lol?”, which is a genuine question really, considering that in terms of craziness Call of Duty has been really wild with their content lately.
But the replies coming in about Battlefield 6 and carry forward are really the highlight here. The bulk of users are slamming Call of Duty while praising BF6. Baseball4Ever99 went a step further and called out “Garbage, BF6 destroyed yall.” And Mayberry even upped the ante saying, “No one among you guys is alive, I had more fun today on BF6 alone than on all cod games from the last 5 years put together.” Ouch!
The carry forward issue is indeed REAL! Almost all replies either read “Bring back carry forward” or whine about how Season 6 is “”a waste of money without Carry Forward.” Admiral Oink had this rant where he said “the goofy garbage skins is what made the game lose thousands of players” and how they are not bringing back carry forward anyway.
One of the factors that makes the community division so interesting is the fact that some players are ecstatic about the possible new content while others have expressed that they are over Call of Duty’s direction. For example, CryptoChad referred to nuketown as “stupid nuketown shit” while proposing that “just retire that shit already, it’s been played 6 million times.” Meanwhile, others are reporting specific bugs like Usethis2lol, who said, “Jason’s vertical grip skin for the lucky 13 ksv is bugged, hand goes through barrel.”
The ‘he’s right behind me’ feeling is certainly a reflection of the tension that multiplayer matches bring. The scenario where you are aiming at your target but you just KNOW that someone is going to knife you from behind. GAMED even put it in gamer slang “enemy only appear when you don’t look at him.” He is spot on.
Angel raised the topic of “front facing executions” and that got me pondering if an execution animation where the victim actually sees it coming is coming. That would definitely be a psychological experience for Call of Duty. Mostly, you just get killed from behind and that’s that, but the person killing you is right in your face? That’s some serious psychological warfare right there.
There are also some random ones that fall into the hilarious category such as Clogged Toilet who jokingly asked to “Rate it on a scale of 3 out of 7 please” which is totally absurd but still relatable nonetheless. And Silver shared a gif of a shocked person with the caption “Me when I see ‘We’re on Battlefield 6’ and ‘bring back Carry Forward.'”
Certainly, the Battlefield 6 comparisons are everywhere. Like Katherine Lee saying “COD LOST MORE IN A WEEK” and mythicboot24601 saying “Thank god the 180 flick LGBTAim community is staying in Battlefield 6.” It looks like there is this never-ending argument as to which shooter is superior, and Call of Duty’s tweet just unintentionally turned into the battlefield.
Nevertheless, some players remain hopeful for a particular thing. KindaBiasSPORTS asked about “the return of some maps for resurgence” and complained “Enough rebirth already!” while sarlndr was eager to know, “When is Plunder going to be at night?” So, even with all the negativity around them, people still voice their wishes for the improvement of particular features.
The zombie faction is present as well, with tragiclovexo demanding, “Bring back the full Carry Forward of BO6 operators & etc for BO7 zombies mode exclusively!!!!” and Clogged Toilet even showcasing a “Black Ops 7 zombie HUD concept.” So, people are still to a certain extent, involved in the franchise even if they do criticize some aspects.
NuckinFutts81 dropped the funniest line, “I hope that the crybabies that got carry forward canned always sleep on a hot pillow.” That is some specific rage right there.
This tweet, however, really illustrates the extreme division in the Call of Duty community. New content and creepy executions excite some while others are just tired of the franchise’s direction. Daily comparisons to Battlefield 6 worsen the situation and the carry forward issue appears to be a major concern for many players.
Whether this “he’s right behind me” moment will be something cool and new or yet another reason for people to complain is still unclear. However, one thing is certain: Call of Duty players have a lot to say and they are not afraid to voice their opinions. If the franchise wants to get back the players who have moved on to Battlefield 6 or other shooters, it may need to take care of some of these concerns.
For now, though, we can only wait and see what this spooky behind-you moment turns out to be. It could be an execution, a game mode, or a simple eerie tweet. No matter which it is, it has sparked conversations and in the case of the gaming world, that is already half the battle.
TimTheTatman is one of the notable personalities in the gaming community, and while PlayStation and Xbox platforms continue to host these intense debates, the conversation around these games remains as lively as ever.
