Activision and Treyarch have made the New Season 1 announcement for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 official, and it will be live on the servers from December 4th. Besides the new zombies saga, the fresh season also promises to add new maps, new modes, and a lot of loadout content that is going to take some time to grind for. This is the first major content addition for BO7 since its launch and players are already… let’s say they have some plans.

Although the official tweet from PlayStation has a lot of replies, the reaction was indeed everywhere. For example, among the reactions, some users were really enthusiastic. User “Pixel” shared, “Exciting times ahead, zombies and new content! Can’t wait for Dec 4th.” Another user ‘lenny’ only posted “Lezz go 🥰,” which mainly conveys the feeling of the majority of the community. New zombies content is a great thing for many players; it’s almost like it has become a custom.

But a little further scrolling shows that the opposite side is truly very vocal. Very loud. Damien Barker expressed his opinion and directly confronted Activision and Treyarch. He accuses them of “LIED” regarding the SBMM and says it is the same as Black Ops 6. He spots the same players in open matchmaking, feels everything is “built with paper,” and is complaining about getting shot around corners and terrible, random spawns. He concluded with “feels like shit,” so it’s quite evident that he is not having fun. That’s quite an extensive list of complaints there.

And he is not alone. User ‘seaex69’ just said “Game is cheeks,” which is the current way of saying ‘this is bad.’ ‘Firebird68’ labeled it “trash.” And ‘Tolivas’ declared “We will NOT be there 🫡,” which is an extremely strong boycott statement. Apparently, the community is greatly divided, with one group of players only concerned with the new content and the other one getting bored with the core gameplay feel.

Still, some replies are simply hilarious. User ‘Pushi Memes’ uploaded a GIF of someone who seems to be feeling unwell along with the caption “This looks like we have to be ill that week,” which is definitely a mood. Just imagine; planning your sick days around a game update is something we all have done at least once. Another user, ‘Better CallBot,’ uploaded a funny video about evading responsibilities, which almost perfectly reflects the entire Call of Duty player base.

What about the… philosophical opposite? User ‘Xsycth’ remarked, “Can’t believe there are actually people playing this AI-slop,” which is a totally different form of critique. It’s not just a matter of gameplay mechanics; it’s also a matter of principle. Meanwhile, ‘Ania’ is just savoring the moment and saying it’s “One of my favorite franchises,” a true beacon of positivity in a stormy sea

SBMM caught my attention the most. Skill-based matchmaking has been a huge and a long-running issue in the Call of Duty community for years. Damien and a few other players view it as a “sweaty” and un-fun environment where the casual matches feel like ranked tournaments. The claim that it hasn’t changed since BO6 is a serious one if it turns out to be true. The developers will be using a system that a good portion of their audience—who are quite vocal about it—does not like at all.

And then “shot around corners” together with bad spawns? Those are typical netcode and map flow problems. If players are still experiencing these problems, it might indicate there are some underlying engine problems that a new season of content would not be able to fix. New maps and modes may be appealing, but if a large number of players feel that the gunfights are off, then that is a tougher problem to solve.

So December 4th is going to be a significant date. Some players will be super excited to join the new zombies quest, unlock all the new gear, and have a blast probably. However, there will also be a group who will log into social media complaining about the spawns and matchmaking, or perhaps even the same players after a couple of matches. This is the ongoing cycle of a live-service first-person shooter game. The content drop looks very promising – new zombies is always a big draw – but community reactions indicate that what’s in the store might not be the same as what people experience in the trenches. Whether Season 1 is a redemption arc or just more fuel for the fire is something we will all find out together when it goes live.
