In an effort to continue improving endgame for players, Blizzard has decided to rework the Echoes of Ny’alotha system in the current retail version of World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth.
We wrote about this system back when it was being implemented, which you can read about here. Essentially, Blizzard added in the system to help make Azerite Essences, a core and vital part of endgame content, an easier-to-obtain account-wide item.
These essences provide extremely useful and indispensable active and passive effects to players’ loadouts, making it so that one can’t ignore them if they intend to push into the tiers of endgame content. However, they’re also a bit of a drag to grind and can be difficult to obtain, with each essence having its own source.
To make it easier to obtain them, Blizzard implemented the new Echoes of Ny’alotha currency, which was obtained through a variety of methods. By using this currency, players could purchase an essence that they had already earned on another character rather than having to go through the grind again.
There's a new official #Warcraft Sylvanas statue coming, featuring twenty-four movable joints and five pairs of interchangeable hands. Pre-orders are open now and she's scheduled to ship in Q3 2020:https://t.co/VoiLa6Avl6 pic.twitter.com/ICrtOhxm7N

Now, however, Blizzard is reworking the system to make the currency more than just an essence-related fund. The developers are making it so that they’ll drop more frequently to help hurry things along when leveling an alt.
“Our goal with this update is to speed up the power progression of new level 120 characters, while giving established endgame players more agency in pursuing the Corruption effects they most desire,” Blizzard stated. “We plan to expand the availability and purpose of this new currency.”
With these changes, players will earn Echoes of Ny’alotha from all the usual sources once any character on their account has completed the Ashjra’kamas questline. Additionally, players will be able to upgrade Ashjra’kamas easier, as the change to Echoes also comes with a change towards Horrific Visions, making it so that players will need fewer pages to grind out their cloak upgrades.
Finally, players will be able to pick and choose their corruptions and apply them to their gear using this currency. This helps to eliminate a bit of the RNG that has taken hold of Battle for Azeroth and get the effects they desire.
All of the previous ways that corruptions and vessels could be acquired will remain in place, and will become no less common. The changes Blizzard is implementing targets adding new options rather than reworking old ones.
It’s fantastic to see Blizzard continuing to hear their audience and providing changes that the player base requests. With these new changes, endgame and alts just got a bit easier to navigate.
