Blizzard has added a new option into their World of Warcraft: Shadowlands beta build that fans are responding to with a great amount of positivity. This new change seems set at making the acquisition of power a bit less of a slog for players.
The newest item added is the Chronicle of Lost Memories, which allows players to learn a new Shadowlands legendary power. There are a few caveats, but all in all, it’s a wonderfully quick way for players to move forward.
In terms of caveats, the first is that it will be one for the class – given that it’s Bind of Pickup, players will need to make sure that the character getting it is the one that they want to discover a new legendary power for.
Additionally, players won’t be able to choose which legendary power that they want to learn, as this item is completely random. Serving as a wildcard of sorts, the Chronicle of Lost Memories grants the legendary power at random.
This has a bit and a give and take to it. Obviously, since players aren’t able to choose what power they get, there’s a bit of an RNG to whether or not the item is useful to them. There’s a chance that one could use this item over and over without getting what they need.

There’s also, seemingly, the possibility that a player could get a legendary power that’s completely useless to them. Given that the Chronicle of Lost Memories sorts powers by class, players might not even get something they can utilize.
Say, for example, you’re a DPS warrior, running in the Arms specialization. Using this item, as far as the information that we have currently seems to say, could give a power specific to tanking in Protection, which would be virtually useless.
At the moment, we also don’t know how one would go about acquiring a Chronicle of Lost Memories, so players should likely pay attention to finding their legendary powers the traditional way. It could be an easy farmable, or a months-long timegated crafting item.
Players also would likely be best served by acquiring all the easy-to-get legendary powers for their class before they use a Chronicle of Lost Memories. Nothing would be worse than using a hard-to-obtain item only to get a power that they could’ve obtained much, much easier.
Still, it’s a wonderful way for players to potentially grab what they need instead of only having the farming avenue open. As the expansion comes closer and closer, we’re likely to learn more information about items like this and the many others being added.
