Quite a weird set of clues, with the short caption of “Time to face your fears”, enough for the entire community to go crazy. Call of Duty is seriously trying to build some hype here but the commentary sections are already turning cold. Some even mention the Battlefield 6 competition. So, you have the chaos right on the starting line.
Now, the whole story is presented within just seconds of a visual meant for the Black Ops 7 hashtag. No gameplay. No release date. Just vibes. Still, the replies are an explosion of hype and skepticism. One player, @KarloIglesias, joked, “My fears? I’m afraid of buying the game this year!” And @Diogenic7 answered back,”My fear is another AI shitty cod game.” It’s a real tough time when your very own community starts clowning you before the trailer even drops.
That battlefield 6 comparison is true. Quite a few replied, mocking Call of Duty for apparently being “scared” of EA’s shooter. @Baseball4Ever99 went straight ahead: “Time to face your fears of Battlefield 6.” @cm_euq46912 responded, “u better lock in this year bc of bf6.” And then there is @sticklegs52: “Bf6 is better LOL.” Believe me. The console war never died; it only changed its outfit.
Not all doom and gloom from here. Optimist remains alive in these lands. @hakelnderharald lent an appeal for K9 Killstreak return, and @sleepyyyweeb followed: “BRING BACK THE NICKI MINAJ SKIN !!!! WE GAMER GIRLS NEED IT ASAP !!!” Priorities, I guess. Meanwhile, @Sukuna0019 was crying because, well, Call of Duty actually replied to them: “holy moly call of duty replied to me.” A blessing in disguise amidst all sarcasm.
Meanwhile, the speculation is already flowing freely with guesses on what the teaser actually updates. @sjfostersound will wonder, “Wonder what location that is,” technically making the vague Call of Duty org reply give another. The cryptic auditory call? The butterfly emoji sends theorists into spasms-some think it is a nod to Red Rooms coming back from Warzone while others think it is a new map hiding under an alias. Classic COD: Proms as expected.
Like always, this hype cycle would never start without somebody complaining about SBMM and hackers, all the while asking what marketing angle it simulates. @FnG_Anonymous side-eyed: “Yeah time to face your communities fear ‘SBMM’.” Without a doubt, after recognizing a few possible real fears, @Hewburgz did admit, “My biggest fear is getting hacked on every game.” While @SleptOnMatt kept on throwing some heavy side-eye: “How much of the marketing is going to resemble the final product this time?” Oof. There are real trust issues.
So, where from here? No official word yet, so now the gamers are caught somewhere between cautious optimism and full-blown skepticism. Will Black Ops 7 really innovate or just another yearly reskin? Will it even hold a candle to Battlefield 6, should the latter deliver? And most importantly: The Nicki Minaj skin is back for sure, right? Time will tell. What is certain right now is that the replies to this tweet are already funnier than half the COD campaigns. Stay tuned.
