Treyarch unleashed a spate of new multiplayer modes in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and the reaction went… or shall we say, it was not all sunshine and byte-reflexes. Snipers Only playlist would have to be at the very top of that list for all the quickscopers to rejoice-if they are able to sufficiently argue through everything else first.

Currently, seven playable modes are packed into this update: Snipers Only (new!), Aim High, Season 05 Moshpit, Stakeout 24/7, Nuketown 24/7, Small Map Moshpit, and two Party Games (Blueprint Sharpshooter and Blueprint Gun Game). Trust us when we say, that is several new modes too many to the faces of the watchers. The drama on the sniper front is brisk; other players couldn’t be bothered to cheer.

One @ItsQagain ranted about assault rifles feeling like peashooters: “Until you can tell me why I’m shooting 20-30 bullets into an enemy close range… and not only doesn’t the enemy not die but ends up killing me. FOH.” Ouch. That had to be cathartic to say. On the other hand, @forknoses outright condemned the game for cheating still running rampant: “No one gives a fuck. When you prioritize streamers and other players cheating your game is going down.”

Meanwhile, the news of the Battlefield 6 beta offered all the distraction needed. Replies such as the one from @Ryangofett_2490 that said, “We all on Battlefield 6 lil bro,” imply that a few COD players are defecting, at least for now. Even @KatsMetalLitter, who claims, “was never a real big BF fan,” is jumping aboard: “Feels like a real war game, not a cod fortnite game.” Treyarch isn’t going to sit so well with that.

On the flipside, @HVCUnit can hardly hide the excitement behind a cryptic “Someone say Snipers Only? 👀 🔥,” while @Some_JayDude has eight other things on his mind: “Just drop the SS Easter Egg for us Zombie players please?” Because the Zombies community is something else.

And what about the biggest complaint? The fan favorite Chaos Moshpit is simply absent. @reaperreapzz said just that: “Still no chaos moshpit?” and proceeded to post a meme that certainly conveys more than mere words ever could. @BFans216 added: “Should’ve kept Chaos Nuketown in there.” Fair.

So where does that leave us? Sure, there are some gems in the latest Black Ops 6 update, but there is certainly not a consensus from the player base. Some are here for Snipers, some are loading up Battlefield, and some are begging Treyarch to fix the hit registration. Is this really going to keep the players interested, or is it going to serve as just a distraction for a couple more months before the next greatest shooter? Time will tell, along with a generous amount of vinegar-soaked tweets.

One thing about which people can agree is that if Treyarch isn’t giving players a reason to choose it over Battlefield (or even GTA 6, as per @ahmedal42151043), then we’re already fighting a losing battle. And that’s with a lot more to fight about: cheaters, hit detection, missing modes. On the bright side, though, snipers got their limelight all to themselves. For now.
