The official account on Twitter of the Elder Scrolls sent out a tweet with the theme “Happy New Life Festival” to the gamers for celebrating in a quiet and a nice manner, however, on the contrary, it triggered an immediate and chaotic reaction from the community. The tweet was merely a simple holiday-wish but a large portion of the replies disregarded the message and used it instead to strengthen the news on The Elder Scrolls 6 and the criticism of the new editions of Skyrim that are still rippling. The situation has been torturing the fanbase of Elder Scrolls, which is already split and impatient, in their hopes of seeing the revolutionary episode.

Probably, Bethesda’s social media team was merely being polite. Right? Just being nice by declaring Happy New Life Festival, which is the equivalent of New Year’s in Tamriel, to all. They might have even added a cute little candle emoji hoping for something like “you too!” or similar in reply. But definitely not. The very instant that tweet was sent, the section of comments exploded and it could be labeled only as a kind of collective therapy session for the annoyed Elder Scrolls players. Instead of being a holiday greeting, it was more like a public square where everybody started to voice their grievances. And the prevailing grievance is very clear: WHERE IS ELDER SCROLLS 6??

To be more accurate, the mood was created as soon as the very first replies came in. “Where’s 6 fuckers,” was very simply and clearly stated by user CommentSectionKing, he had no nonsense approach straight to the point. And indeed, he was not the only one. User mathhdu52 pushed the point very brutally: “The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced 8 years ago, 8 YEARS and still nothing, not a single image, not a single piece of information.” Ouch! The argument is very strong. It sounds somewhat ridiculous to talk about a ten-year wait for the next big thing that will happen after the first teaser and so on. Another user, OneSingleEye, even shared a gif of an older man with the text “I was 25 when I first played Skyrim. I would not like this gif to become a reality.” There is no doubt that the fear is real, and it is probably the most pessimistic scenario of the situation that people—who are already over 25—might retire before even being able to play ES6.

The situation is getting the more fascinating or the worse depending on your view, just wait. The other major part of the reactions is coming from Skyrim that could not get any worse. The tweet has obviously pushed the “Skyrim re-release” button in the community. User Poljhkfb has just told a common truth that many people share: “That game is 14 years old. Stop milking it and make something new ffs.” And then, user Winnie made that famous one-word, no-frills request: “Stop milking Skyrim nigga release ES6.” It’s blunt and it’s crude, but it expresses the feelings of a big part of the community. People are tired of accepting the same old game with a swipe up on their smart fridge or whatever, they want the next chapter.

Then there are the Nintendo Switch players who come with a specific kind of pain of their own. “Switch 60 fps yet?” was the question put forward by Bigbody. “FIX SKYRIM ORIGINAL SWITCH!” shouted Liz Blue. There are even discussions about a “Switch 2 version” that is already begging for fixes which is… quite optimistic? That’s yet another layer of requests piled on top of the main ES6 demand. The community is like a hydra—cut off one head (ask for ES6), and three more come asking for framerate patches and PSVR2 remasters. User BraeznAhltor concurred saying, “Remaster Skyrim for PSVR2 first. All other projects can wait.” Get it?? The chaos is magnificent.

There were a lot of demands, yet at the same time, there were still some occasional sparks of the old community spirit. A few users returned the favor and wished them a happy festival. Someone brought up replaying the “amazing Oblivion remake,” which, hey, that’s a positive note! And JediJim555 was a bit of a hype-man “It’s the Year of the ES6 Name Drop and my sweet rolls are ready!” That’s the vibe we need. But even the comments that showed more patience like the one from sonic_blue_eyes have a touch of desperation in them: “Dudes take as long as u need on ES6 bc it somehow needs to be better then 5 and tbh I think gaming peaked in 2011 so it’s gunna be nearly impossible.” Sounds like that’s very supportive, but at the same time, it’s throwing some serious shade on the entire industry for the past 13 years.
