A random tweet from the official Elder Scrolls account was dropped in the wild by Bethesda, and the Internet is confused and excited by this. The tweet said, “When you’ve cleared two goblin caves, an underwater shipwreck, and the entire town of Hackdirt, and you still can’t recall where you got this item from. 🤔” What could it possibly mean? Is this again a tease toward some new game or is it just another Bethesda mess?

The reply section is absolutely crazy. The comments section sounds like madhouse. One dude just asked, “Wait what happens at Hackdirt I haven’t gone there yet, does something bad happen?” Megan, Hackdirt is the creepy town in Oblivion where all the weirdos worship the Deep Ones. It is one of those classic Bethesda moments you remember forever.

Then these commenters demand things for more. It is a good question after all about PlayStation release date since Nintendo’s new console is indeed supposed to be around the corner. Another commenter stated, “How about remastering Morrowind,” which is like … yes, please! That game is ancient but damn good. Then the classical every-Bethesda-ever-thread pops-up question: “When will we get the release date for TES6?” By now, I feel like they’re just trolling us by withholding it.

Unsurprisingly, this means gripes about performance. “Can you guys optimize this game better? It’s way too choppy on PC,” one person offered, “Welcome to a Bethesda game, my dude.” Yeah, they’ve always been janky on the PC; it’s really part of the charm. Whereas there’s another: “Imagine selling physical without even patching the performance. Great job Bethesda.” Ouch! But, honestly, there’s a great point.

What really strikes me, though, is the actual divide. There is half of it that goes, “FINALLY!!!!! 🫡🫡I will buy two copies!!! One for my heart and one for my mind…🫶🫶” This is maximum hype energy. Then on the other end, the real negative voices say, “Damn gonna have to wait another 6 years for more dog shit how unfortunate” and “They should stop making shit games like Starfield and Fallout 76.” Slowly, it cracks a laugh because of the contrast.

Then another huge debate: Will the physical edition really have the game on disc, or will it just be a download code? Someone asked, “Is the actual game going to be on disc or is it going to be standard issue Xbox trash that is a license to download it?” which is honestly a fair concern. Physical media is dying, and it sucks for collectors.

What is making me suspicious is: why do something so random? Like, is this a message hinting toward a new Oblivion remaster? Or maybe some kind of anniversary edition? The mentioning of specific locations gets me thinking that they work on something related to Oblivion per se. Hackdirt is not exactly the most famous of places; they’d be weirdly specific referencing it unless they’re planning something.

Plus, this could not possibly come at a more perfect time. With all the rumors out there about Nintendo Switch 2 and what is next from Microsoft, this could very much be their way of starting hype for kind of a cross-platform release. Or just the social media manager’s job to crack a joke; who is really to say? Bethesda has always had this air of mystery around marketing.

Elder Scrolls fans are basically starved for news. Every little utterance is turned upside down by the fans, and this tweet was no exception. People are reading way too much into this, but who’s to blame them? It’s been so many years since a proper Elder Scrolls game has come out, and despite that, Skyrim is now putting a count on how many times it has gotten re-releases.

And don’t forget about how that reaction really gave a glimpse of how divided and passionate this community really is. Even with all that rabid complaining throughout recent Bethesda releases, the entire Elder Scrolls Universe is still loved by all. All the locations, the lore, the weird random items you pick up and then completely forget about until a year later-whole magic!-that’s what this is about.

Anything new Elder Scrolls, I’d take. A remaster, a brand-new game, hell, even DLC for one of the older titles. That people are still so invested in something without a mainline release in over a decade speaks volumes about how much these titles have impacted them.

So thus, with everybody buzzing, one can only agree that while the five-word-only tweet might be nothing at all, it is granting the community with endless talking points. For a game world, that is half the battle. Keeping the engagement alive, especially when there is literally nothing else to talk about-who knows-how much pain can be a wonderful marketing trick?

I really believe that this whole mess is what did it for me, what actually hooked me on Bethesda games for life: the mystery, the deep stories, those tiny little details that just flesh out an entire world. Even their social media spins such a vibe-just enough vibe to make you question what is real and what is simply another wild goose chase.

Anyway, another six months are just around the corner before anything substantive starts coming out, but for now, this giant question mark of a tweet is what keeps fueling all our guesses. Honestly, I do believe this is far better than no news at all.
