Battlefield 6 is scheduled to release a new map called Eastwood on November 18th, and the new feature will allow 64 players to fight each other in a block of an urban area that has golf carts available for anyone who wants to ride them. This announcement by PlayStation has caused a rift among gamers with some being really thrilled about the enjoyment and others even questioning the limit of players per game and the comparison of the different platforms.
The Eastwood map for Battlefield 6 looks very chaotic but in a very good way. Players will be able to explore nice quiet neighborhoods, shoot up the gorgeous lawns, and drive around in golf carts as if they were tanks. The resemblance to Battlefield Hardline is uncanny, which by the way? That game did not get the credit it deserved. One player even joked about how he hopes there is a couch that can be driven, and I am like, “Why has DICE not done this?”
The reactions to this news are quite mixed. A really excited person has been quoted saying, “I can hardly wait.” Gamer Valkaras Atlas mentioned that he is already too enthusiastic and is even looking forward to the game release. Player flightflameeeee, however, stated that he would “buy the game just before this release.” Another comment from user PromptlyAI read, “Golf carts + 64 players = an incredible FPS.” They have won over the new Battlefield and said, “This current iteration of Battlefield is doing it right.”
On the flip side, there are detractors. SpongeGloob described 64 players as “pathetic” and suggested that the number should instead be 124 players. And captcutty_ also made a somewhat sarcastic remark claiming that “Nov 18? Yeah, we will be on BO7” – meaning they think the Call of Duty will have launched a new title by that time and all would have shifted to that.
At this point, the whole PC vs console argument came up again, and it was just as everybody thought. The discussion seems to favor the PC gaming scenario with Luffygearmonger, and the remarks about cheating roll in one after another. HTownRobert said, “PC is ruined, they make having cheats so easy for everyone, so NOPE,” and ceyKo picked “no cheaters” as the only reason for his choice of console.
Before I lose my line of thinking again, let’s return to the map. People thought golf carts looked kind of similar to Fortnite, but GetWetSports and VagueNightmares were fast to point out that Battlefield Bad Company 1 had the ability to drive vehicles long before Fortnite came into being. VagueNightmares in particular called it “an homage to Battlefield Bad Company 1, which was almost 10 years old when Fortnite released.”
There are also complaints but they are rather infrequent – abd_mazouz is asking for Discord screenshare on PlayStation, kuwiks is questioning what is the reason for PlayStation users to pay for online multiplayer when PC users do not have to, and LilUziBitcoin simply said “0 portal xp” which is like… what could that possibly mean??
However, the graphics have been met with positive reviews – playonshaga seems to be very excited saying “This map’s visuals are great so far 🔥” and HTownRobert referred to it as “the best collaboration y’all have done besides gta 6”, which is… certainly a great compliment to be honest.
First, Cammobeatz mocked by saying “Basically, it is bad but the golden state map is ten times better” so it seems not everyone is impressed. Also, meow_cabal was saying that they would try it “after I finish the $100K WilderWorld tournament” which definitely sounds way more intense than my usual gaming periods.
The whole scenario is very similar to Battlefield trying to get back the classic chaos that once characterized the series – smaller scale yet fierce battles and fun vehicle choices. Golf carts might be looking silly, but did we forget the time when we went crazy over the forklifts in Battlefield 4? Occasionally, the unusual vehicles become the most memorable feature of the game.
So, if you are into suburban warfare with leisure vehicles, mark November 18th as the day. Regardless of whether you support console or PC, if you are team 64-players or team should-be-more, the least we can do is agree that it would be fun to ride golf carts through someone’s front yard while being shot at.
Xbox users will also be able to enjoy this new content when it releases.
