The PlayStation community is in for some more exclusivity with Battlefield 6, but this time, the exclusivity is for a really suave skin that just requires you to play the beta to acquire it. EA and DICE gave us a glimpse of this skin, depicting the really slick-looking ultra-cool-blue outfit that lies within the gated PlayStation ecosystem. The community is already divided into those who are hyped, some that are unhappy, and others figuring out whether you need PS Plus to get it.
The skin is wonderful-looking I must say. Deep-blue tactical colors lightly branding PlayStation colors– nothing so much that ruins the subtlety, therefore driving in jealousy from Xbox and PC players. One little catch, however, players have to go out and actually play the Battlefield 6 beta to get the skin. Somewhat straightforward, isn’t it? Well… if you are on Xbox or PC, you are out of luck for this cosmetic.
Mayhem soon appeared in the reply section. Some PlayStation fans went all-gloating and went, “We stay winning,” stated @Cool_Fiver. Some just don’t know as @Abde_Raouf26 got snagged because he realized he needed PS Plus to play the Beta, two hours in. @Reclaimer_Rob straight out asked if this is going to be the new model—paying full price on other platforms but still feeling like a “second-class customer” on those non-PlayStation platforms. Oof.
There is the other debate, though. One that is blowing up across Twitter with @EastCoastHandle throwing down that Battlefield 6 beta is already 250K players ahead of Black Ops 6. “COD is too big to fail? Looks like COD is the right size to fail,” they said, throwing shades at Activision’s matching systems. Meanwhile, @ixWebb came out and said that it’s going to literally pass BO6 launch numbers on Steam. Damn.
But let us not pretend this is just about a skin. Nah, yet another chapter in an ongoing console war. @kevinchadwick55 joked saying Sony “couldn’t have Call of Duty anymore so they jumped ship to Battlefield,” while @TH3MAF1A shrugged it off with, “They always want something exclusive for them, that’s all they care about.” And then there was @morales_ontop, roasting PlayStation players for celebrating what is basically “a blue reskin of a default character.”
The real question? Is this a one-time thing, or is this going to be the start of many PlayStation exclusives? @AuthenticViewsX thinks PlayStation fans are “winning again,” but @Dreadnoughtkght pointed out the irony, considering this is exactly the sort of exclusivity the FTC feared Microsoft would run with Activision. Meanwhile, @Anthony_S026 just wants an Xbox version with green instead of blue. Fair enough.
Oh, and by the way, you do have to have PS Plus to play the beta, as @awolf_2049 and @RDMO_FN have found out in the hardest way. So, if the plan is to grab that skin, you best make sure your subscription is still active. Otherwise, all you’ll be able to do is gawp from a distance.
As far as Battlefield 6 goes, though? The beta is now forming waves, and if these player numbers are anything to go by, EA might actually have hit a home run here. Now whether that means long-term success… well, that’s a whole different war zone.
Bottom line: PlayStation players get a cool skin, Xbox and PC players another gripe, and the net gets yet another day of drama. Business as usual.
