Battlefield 6 managed to grab 549,766 people on Steam on the day of the REDSEC launch, which is brutally a huge drop from its peak which was 747,440 players on October 10th. Well, to be frank, the game has lost about two hundred thousand players since the time of its peak and mostly all the players have just gone away. The reaction from the community is very mixed with a lot of people happy and a lot of people mad and even a bit of chaos created.
What has happened with Battlefield 6? The numbers are clear indicators of the players’ plight. One player, Pichu, even requested single-player in the game mode and remarked, “We need solos ong šš”. Surely adding a solo mode is not that much of a deal, isnāt it? Apparently, that is quite a tough one for DICE. However, another group of gamers called it “ok, not that great to be honest” in the words of RDJ134. Moreover, the discussion about the performance of Battlefield 6 against Call of Duty has been hot, which, to tell the truth, is always a matter in the FPS community.
Texas Barbie ⢠did not hold back and stated “Cod bo6-7 are for kids and thatās a fact. No grown-up without autism would go for them over BF6.” That carries a lot of weight. Thatās really a strong opinion. Nevertheless, still on the opposite side of the debate, there are players like Golem11 who are extremely critical of DICE and EA for “breaking promises once again – cluttering the store with glitzy, impractical military outfits and fully-loaded P2W guns.” That was the reason, they claim, for the removal of bot XP in the Portal mode. The gameās drama never ends.
The Portal mode continues to be a source of conflict. Golem11 also expressed that players are being equipped through Portal because “Multiplayer progression is very slow and most attachments are useless.” Instead of revamping the progression system, DICE just… removed XP from bot kills? This reasoning is absolutely counterintuitive. And on top of it, some gamers are drawing parallels to Call of Duty where one can supposedly get golden camos without the “endless 50-level grind” and there’s a zombie mode for fast unlocks. Battlefield’s Portal mode has “nothing” according to some players.
The new war zone, REDSEC, is not under a very favorable light either. Burakjesus08 did not sugarcoat it when he said, “Battlefield 6 has completely mismanaged the battle royale genre; the game has turned to be bad.” Chadu, however, called it “rubbish” even though he confessed to liking the other modes. So, it’s not that the entire game is bad; it’s just that the new battle royale mode is not great.
Hold on, that is not all the story! The gaming community is divided into the defenders and the aggressors. Markus was proclaiming the game is “the best FPS to Play in Terms how IT feels and to Grind stuff for and people Love it.” Simultaneously, there is a question of whether gamers are buying Call of Duty blindly without knowing what the game contains or if they buy it only for the campaign or zombies. Itās a whole discussion issue.
Progression system has probably become the next significant issue. Gamers are underlining the differences in XP gains from killing in battle royale and multiplayer, with wallytreats stating: “18 mins and like 10th gets you 40k exp in BR, in multiplayer I do all objectives and go like 40-20 and get like 20k exp for 20 mins. BR is way faster.” So if you want to level up fast, you should probably play battle royale? That sounds quite the opposite of what should happen in a game that is supposed to be about large-scale multiplayer battles.
Then, thereās also the whole community vibe aspect. “Over there, players like NATHANBULLARD, are just done with the whole numbers game, saying: “way back when no one used to give a flying shite about numbers, just used to be if you like it you do and if you don’t you don’t none of this swaying”. Which, indeed, is a valid point. But, in the current gaming scenario, player counts do matterāthey determine the longevity of servers, the amount of game support, and even whether your favorite mode will still have players in six months.
The similarity with Warzone is always there, with VentiPelo calling REDSEC a “literal copy of Warzone, the flow, mechanics, progression all the exact same. Even the GUI for the battlepass is the exact same.” So, since itās the same thing, the question arisesāinnovation or imitation? The players are not united in their opinions.
