Well well well, if it was ever safe to speak about Battlefield 6, now the creator has given its name for all to hear. The announcement incited reactions akin to grenade shrapnel in a narrow hallway all over the internet.
First and most important, confirmed on official Twitter in more or less spelling out “yes, it is called Battlefield 6,” along with some artwork that seems to depict a futuristic jet flying over a city skyline. There’s really nothing to hold onto here, but gamers being gamers, they’ve already begun picking apart every pixel.
Jen Clare must have dropped the biggest bomb in response by declaring that the reveal trailer would arrive on July 24th. So, at least a whole month to fling around speculative theories before starting to lay down definite facts. The waiting game on with… again.
Now we get really interesting here. The reactions to the announcement? Some of them are truly hilarious. Other players are crazy hyped, with dblzero just going “We are ready,” with all the enthusiasm of a fresh soldier about to drop into his very first match. The others? Not so much. Shuren went full deep, yelling, “DICE is dead and nothing can save them!” Ouch. That is next-level salt.
The truly interesting ones come from those players that want so much more out of the franchise. Boba Vhett lays down a complete vision for basically a BF3/BF4 remaster with some quality of life changes but closes with the rather brief insult that devs nowadays are “retarded” (their words, not ours). Meanwhile, SlantRock is theorizing about a US second civil war setting from the artwork’s cityscape. Talk about range!
Then comes the classic and age-old debate — Battlefield vs. COD. ZkSinghh came back with a blazing statement, “we will be there for COD’s burial,” while Abusaad5971 harked back to when these titans last clashed in 2015 with BF1 and Black Ops 3. History lesson: Actually, Battlefield 1 crushed hard that year; but, will lightning strike twice? Pressure is ON.
Some players are lowering their expectations in the wake of the… let’s say controversial launch of Battlefield 2042. LP said they will wait “4 months for them to fix the bugs at launch,” which is a real point, right? Ashish Verma gave the straightforward, “Remember no pre order!!!!” in all caps because SOME PEOPLE never learn.
TheKwispyShow versus N0VACIA somewhat entered into an exchange about whether this will be like 2042 with Kwispy claiming to have played some pre-alpha version and guaranteeing everyone it’s not. CSR, meanwhile, is very real about how COD players actually want Battlefield to be good since competition forces Activison to actually step up.
Big brain take right there.
Special shout-out to Connor (frankenpez), who requested that we “pause impending WW3 for awhile so we can play this.” Mood. Absolute mood.
Battlefield still has plenty to prove after the rocky vetting of 2042. Some players are willing to forgive and forget; others are keeping their wallets closed until otherwise proven. The July reveal, if it even holds, will either make or break this franchise who’s been through the wringer lately.
One thing that is most for sure: the gaming community has not yet learned to curb their passion for this series, whether that passion builds hype or skepticism. Now are we waiting to find out if DICE has something that would unite everyone instead of dividing them further.
The battlefield (heh) is set – July could be the beginning of a glorious comeback or another disappointment to meme about. Grab popcorn; it’s gonna be a fun show, either way.
